There's a point where being nice just turns into plain awkwardness, being told "Happy Holidays ^_^ & hope you're doing wellHonestly, if people are going out of their way to be nice and helpful in parties, then not only is this system doing exactly what it's supposed to do, the system doing exactly what a lot of people said it wouldn't.
I never needed motivation to be helpful, but if some people do then I'd say it's working." repeatedly throughout a run is creepy.

The reason you see high level players going low level guildhests is probably due to it being part of the main story now. And if they are nice... I don't see the problem.Anyone notice the commend beggers trying to act nice in dungeons? Right now the fastest way to get commends is through guildhests but you see fully geared people in just about every run trying to act like they are your best friends. That sight really sickens me and I am also trying to get commends by just doing my thing to win the dungeon without having to "hello" everyone and playing good cop.

Not that I'm trying to brag, but I haven't really gone out of my way to get these commendations. But I have gone into each instance and have just done my job, I have 3, I know no big deal right. I give advice and just played the way I always have. Nothing really new, you know. I like the idea, hopefully other things like this can bolster the community, and make a better experience for everyone. Just my 2gils worth.
They should add some kind of maintenance commendation cost to the rewards. As soon as people get what they want they'll just be back to their old selves.
I had a 4.7k HP Dragoon trolling everybody in a CM today. "Sorry guys I'm gonna watch cutscenes, I'm new." A few other players, without thought about being trolled, instantly kicked into nice mode with the "Oh, its okay ^^ Take your time!" etc, while I was the only person to call him out on it.
Be nice, but remember to use your brains and not get duped by people. I wouldn't commend people for feigning kindness, because you are essentially encouraging others to become psychopaths or compulsive liars.
I often get three commendations but then again I not only go in as tank, but I explain fights and joke around a bit...basically, I leave an impression. If by the end of the dungeon no one really stood out to me as friendly or helpful over the others, I commend a DD because I know they likely get the least :P. I think you may just be being cynical, there were people like this (and like myself) before commendations, and adding them in changed nothing for me really. In worst case scenario Id rather deal with a fake polite person then a jackass.

So I'll be perfectly honest here.
Before commendations was a thing. I was a nice enough player. I said hi when dungeons started, answered questions, didn't leave if someone was new, occasionally made small talk. nothing forced.
But now, I really effing want that gilded mount... So is it wrong of me to start being "extra nice" for the sake of commendations? I wouldn't consider it fake since it's just an extension of what I was already doing, though that may just be me trying to justify it.
Also, at the end of all duty finder events I usually leave a message along the lines of "if you feel I deserve it, please remember to commendate" since most people don't bother to commend at the end unless asked to. What's nice is generally a few players will in fact give the commendation when asked to.
Once I get the gilded mount will I stop being nice? of course not. But it brings me to another small point I was thinking of. Even if players are being "fake" to get commendations, after doing it for 500 commendations, perhaps being nice will have become more habitual for them rather than being the jerks that were found in the DF so often before.
just some thoughts.

Ya, I generally give my commendation to a DD, since I know generally healers/tanks are more likely to get more than a DD. But I also give commendation to the person who was most useful, such as being helpful with outlining the fight, or doing outstanding job, but generally I look to the DD first. And anyone who asks for commendations or begs for it will not get any from me. It's just pathetic to beg for it, had 1 guy doing this in CM, and it was a healer as well, like really? I'm a healer and I know how much commendations healers can get, so having this healer beg for it was just disgusting. Naturally to say it was I that ended up getting 5 commendations for that run, due to the fact that I also told another DD to shut up about how the run was being handled when the tanks admitted not being there for a long time and had trouble remembering stuff.

I find it amusing I went into a dungeon and the group all left so quick I couldn't even give any commendations out.
Eh ... I dunno.

"Hello. Sorry in advance if my tanking is bad, I'm still learning."
Then apologies at the end, even though you did a bang on job.
You recieve a player commendation.
You recieve a player commendation.
