Commend suck-ups?

Tanks and Healers are most likely to get them unless a DPS manages to beat a boss when everyone else wiped, or a Bard prevents a wipe with a well timed LB.

Yeah, I've managed to get 5 thus far as a DD. Two were for being last man standing against Demon Wall, 2 for Mage's in CT when a healer died, and one presumably for pulling mobs off the healer when the tank died on a bad pull.

So, not impossible, but you have to be doing something that the other players can notice, or just hope someone's picking at random. . .

I don't think it's that, but rather some people are being more friendly/helpful in an attempt to acquire more commendations and that this particular poster finds it to be despicable.

i'd queue ifrit all the time and be like "all your commendation are belong to me". people would be like "wtf? not giving that guy a commendation what a douche". but only before i solo the last 10% of ifrit

Of the commendations I've been given, I'd say a healthy 80% are as a DPS. Though in my case, I think my name had more to do with it than anything.

Anyone notice the commend beggers trying to act nice in dungeons? Right now the fastest way to get commends is through guildhests but you see fully geared people in just about every run trying to act like they are your best friends. That sight really sickens me and I am also trying to get commends by just doing my thing to win the dungeon without having to "hello " everyone and playing good cop.

I go in guildhests fully geared, to work on the 200 achievement, any commendations from them are just a bonus.
Not everyone's a suck-up, it efficient now to spam them since everyone is running them for storyline, makes getting that achievement done much more easier.

Commendations are just an extra bonus for being helpful and all-around friendly. Duty Roulette story mode has given me commendations for simply explaining the mechanics in CM and I'm a dragoon. I think it's a wonderful addition simply for the fact that helpful players can actually be shown they are doing a good job too. Yeah there might be suck-ups but I'd take a handful of those over one destructive troll.

Take a deep breath and think back at any troll you've run into on DF. Now replace that with a person trying to suck up and be overly nice... way better huh?

This. People being encouraged to be nicer is a good thing. Less people being dicks about everything. I think people should be nice anyway, because it makes for a more comfortable community for everyone, but having a little encouragement is necessary for some people. As for just giving them to the person who was the best, SE said it was more for those who were most helpful or easy to work with or most improved. That's why they didn't call it the MVP system. I like to give them to people that I feel learned from their mistakes if they made them or were just fun to play with because of their personality (I think they are funny or just good at keeping the atmosphere friendly or something)

I give comms for all kinds of stuff. One person for having a hilarious name, another to a Miquo'te who wore revealing bottoms....not necessarily just to a tank for being a tank or what have you. If someone pulls a last minute awesome move to save a wipe, that will get them one as well.

I have to say, one of the best side-effects of commendations I've noticed is I try to pay more attention to what the DPS are doing. It's easy to think the healer or tank were amazing when you get past a tough boss fight with no wipes... but sometimes it's that DPS making use of debuffs and being on top of the adds.

Finally! Someone get its! As a DRG I have always shot after an add the tank lost to a healer. I have 2 stuns and a slow that will keep the healer alive long enough for the tank to get it back. But I rarely see others do the same, but w/e.

OT: If someone asks for commendations I ignore them outright, and leave as soon as the instance is over.
