Why bother playing if there will always be better and your chasing an illusion?

I understand how they work just fine thank you very much. All your ever doing is chasing a carrot on a stick, your never going to have the best items because they will always release better ones later on. The only thing that counts to me is how much fun I have along the way, most MMO focus on vast amounts of boring grind and I can't say ARR is heading is a different direction then most.

If we are chasing an illusion, then you are upset the illusion wont just jump into your hands. how can a game be successful if it spends all its money developing content, if it just hands you the same rewards for doing nothing?

its like if you went to do a holiday event, which could take an hour or so to do.. but then you found a vendor giving out the rewards for 1g. sure you may do the event once just for the experience, then youd just buy the rest of the rewards and go back to toll to do more of nothing.
