One of the characters in the Chains of Promathia expansion actually calls attention to this fact, in that your bigger exploits aren't public knowledge and some of them MUST remain out of public knowledge for there not to be mass hysteria. It's not exactly a good idea to go around telling people you're messing with history or killing off deities.

In XIV, your exploits ARE being publicized, for the most part. It's public knowledge that you were the guy who lead the charge to take out the Garleans, but it's probably NOT public knowledge that you have the Echo and are thus immune to tempering (among other fun abilities); THAT kind of info is probably best left OUT of public knowledge.

I was fine with the soup quest but the one that annoyed me came after beating Ifrit and Titan. You went to the Shroud. You then had to dance for some slyphs. I was like ffs, seriously??

Also, when I'm checking out the marketboards in Gridania, I teleport to the lancers guild and run from there. Every now and again Ill pop into the guild to see how my old buddies are doing. And they treat me like some common smuck. After all we''ve been through?? You douche!

Listen, when you're being a diplomatic envoy to foreign cultures, you stick to their culture.
If you don't wanna dance for sylphs then you don't make friends with sylphs!

Exactly, the sylphs had just had a major political schism after the Empire stormed the forest (shown in 1.0), the end result of which was half their people summoned Ramuh and were then corrupted by him accordingly, forcing the docile sylphs out of their homeland (Little Solace is essentially nothing more than a sylvan refugee camp) - hence there was a lot of resentment towards the 'walking ones' for causing this.

Trust is a very rare thing amongst the sylphs and hence they're very wary of outsiders. So of course as an envoy on behalf of Gridania you're expected to learn about their culture, which includes dancing to them to develop a rapport and thus earn their trust, to show them that just like not all beastmen are bloodthirsty monsters bowing to the will of an evil Primal, that the five races are also not all like the Garleans.

I had no trouble understanding exactly why I was being asked to throw dignity to the wind and dance like a drunk chocobo, but then I was also actually reading the dialogue and not skipping it.

You know, the sylph questline has some lessons for real life too. If you're ever visiting a foreign culture, it's a good idea to learn about their customs, and try your best to follow them.

    THIS
The fact that everyone in a guild treats you like they've never seen you before, including the guild masters, some of which you work very close with either dangerous and/or personal problems (possessed siblings, tracking naive students who are using their own life-force for healing, etc etc), bugs the hell out of me.

Tell me, do you believe in Eorzea?
    No...

Because the 3 leaders are incompetent and suffering from co-dependence, and the Scions are a pack of one-dimensional louts who have me running around doing their errands and only doing things that I could've done myself, and these 'gods' literally aren't doing anything positive for anyone.
I don't support piggy-backers and leeches who need me to get their affairs in order

But then we proceed to fight anyways because my character is the biggest idiot of all

It's like the developers hired J.K Rowling for the story.

Make all the non-essential parts horrendously long and boring, but make the interesting parts short as hell.

Seriously the stupid feast before titan... look how long that was...

Yet when it comes to things like wanting to know more the subordinates of Guais, your character doesn't care. But puts more emotion into finding tea, cheese, or wine...

Considering the Tribuni were nothing but walking cliches anyway, expanding on their storylines wouldn't have helped much, if at all (except maybe Nero, as he was the most interesting given unlike the other two he actually resented Gaius rather than zealously butt-kissed him at every opportunity.) And it's been said before but the storyline being stretched out like it was with filler sections was because the storyline needed to fit with the expected levelling curve for the game. If the story quests didn't grant experience, the story wouldn't have had quite so much filler.

t's the nature of the beast. When you have quests granting exp for completion, it's inevitable the development team would find the main narrative simply wouldn't be enough to cover levelling right through, so it has to be filled with fetch quests.

They could have done a lot of the things they didn't do. We could have reconned the Tribuni and learned more about them as a build up to the fight. So when we kill them we can feel justified, or feel guilty. All we got was " eh..."

Or went to a allagan ruin where Ultima was place so we could learn it's weakness before we just go right at it with no plan...

    or SOMETHING COOL.

What do we put more effort into? Making tea for a stupid person (Minfilia).

I'd feel better if I was playing a character that wasn't my own. Cause you know if it isn't yours you can be like ok, this guy is a nice guy.

I would like some choice. Do you want to help make blonde bimbo tea? No, move on to something interesting.

I would gladly accept missing some information that is irrelevant to the main story to skip it. Would have been great for all of stupid titan party, would has missed nothing important.
