FATEs were supposed to be SUPPLIMENTAL experience income, not the ONLY source. FATEs were SE's way of saying, "oh I see you running thru X to get to Y, look to your right you can grab some quick easy EXP and then be back on your way." The fact that people discovered that by zerg-rushing them, you could amount to the quickest exp in the game, it destroyed the system. FATEs require completely different mechanics than instances do. Because end-game consists of instanced party-play, leveling via FATEs did NOT equip these people with the proper knowledge of how to perform their class's role in an organized setting. This destructive spiral ultimately lead to the loathing we see today. It's not the system's fault. It's really the playerbase's fault for not exercising self-restraint. Just because someone hands you the easy way out doesn't mean it's the correct way.

The fact that people are STILL wanting FATEs to be "lol easy-mode leveling" proves that this playerbase was bottle-fed way longer than it should have been. 2.1 was the weaning you all needed. "B...but..but dungeons are harder and make me do work." Lol lrn2play bro.

If you're still seeing long queue times for the Duty Finder, I highly suspect it's either your server population or the time of day you are playing. I've noticed a 20 to 50% reduction on all my queue times since 2.1 launched, and yes, that includes DPS. I'm now popping instances in 15-20 minutes instead of the 45-60 minutes I saw in 2.0. Not, that's not ideal, but it's a hell of a lot better than before.
