After two months, I have just two friends, despite running dungeons almost every day.
Actually, I have made friends on duty finder. Many are on my server. I also made friends just talking to people on my server. If ANYTHING, FF14 has proven more friendly and social than WOW post-TBC. Game is new. Maybe that's why.

I tend not to type much, I'm on the PS3 and have a USB keyboard, and I just dislike typing, I like talking to people, but typing annoys me, especially when I'm trying to heal and throw in some damage if I have the time.

I wish you could commend at least 2 ppl in the 8 person groups.

I do also wonder why they didn't make it so the window would come up, and instead of just picking one person, it would list them like it does now, but it would be like Person1 "Was this person helpful/fun?" Yes/No. Person2 "Was this person helpful/fun?" Yes/No. etc. Or whatever wording is better. It would default to "No" and you can just ignore it completely if you wanted. However for the two or three (or more) ppl that really stood out to you, you would be able to click "Yes". Sorry if anyone has mentioned a similar idea already.

I just really struggle picking ONE person when they've often all been fantastic players. :< It makes me feel bad I can only pick one!

Lily: Are you afraid of my kiss?
Jack: I'm afraid you'll break my heart.
Lily: Then still your heart... You are dear to me as life itself.

I had an awesome group of first timers in Copperbell mines HM and we were all talking/ working out the fights together.. we did second boss first time and the last boss on third try once we realised the rocks didn't respawn.

Sad thing was that everyone was playing on the same level and at the end as I was whm they all just gave me the commendations and i felt a bit guilty for it considering it's not a hard dungeon to heal and the DD's were doing most of the work with the boss mechanics.

I suggested to my FC that it would be nice if after every 5th commendation you give out you recieve one yourself as a reward for paticipating. At least this way you'll earn some even if it's a bit slow.

is there always a reason to commend someone?
i mean if its just your standard run, with a group that everyone obviously knows what to do, why commend. its silly. if someone lead a couple of inexperienced players while explainging what to do , thats something, or prevented a wipe somehow, idk.

but throwing out commendations on a standard run? c'mon

People will commend or not commend based on their own personal criteria (which is how it should be), I for one always commend since I don't see the harm in giving someone a little something extra for their time. I base who gets my commendations off of attitude and sociability, whether or not the person cares to respond to me or if they could care less about what is going on and simply going through the motions.

What happens is roughly secondary, if people are inconveniencing other people they'll be low on my list. I don't commend tanks who don't dodge for instance or DD who try to pull more than the tank is comfortable with. If it is someone's first time and they do well, I'll usually throw a commendation their way.

because the main reason they gave us this system was so we'd encourage people to be NICE to each other, not 'amazing at their role'.

    c'mon, indeed.

Agreed. As someone who is currently leveling DPS classes, to clear out my inventory of gear, and seeing how infrequently DPS seems to be commentated, I usually commend the other DPS by default unless they do something particularly bad like constantly pull aggro, decide they want to tank because the current tank isn't pro, control the speed of the run by deciding when and what to pull, etc.

I don't know if it's a western/eastern thing but i doubt anyone here actually gives commendations for being nice. Most dungeon finder parties no one even talks to eachother, so what do you have left to gauge people on? How they perform their roles. Unfortunately healer/tank roles are more obvious and easy to gauge so i suspect DPS get shafted a bit when it comes to commendations.
