If you mention "hey don't leave immediately, I want to give some/all you commendations" then they might stick around for a bit? I dunno, seems like the simplest, current, solution to me.

really depressing =((
If someone is an exceptional player and really stands out, I'll give them the commendation. If everyone was pretty much equal, I just give it to the dps since they seem to be the hardest to get commendations as. People who beg for them will never get one from me, no matter how well they played.
I know it will never catch on, but it would be cool if tanks/healers gave each other commendations, and if dps did the same. Everyone would leave the dungeon with one, baring those who clearly don't deserve it.

Then why not just have the system automatically just give each player a commendation for each instance? Better yet, just mail us the mount and title/rewards and skip the whole process all together. If someone is an exceptional player and really stands out, I'll give them the commendation. Sure thing! Just run 500 dungeons first though, and then you can have your shinies. You know, since my way involves still doing content and earning them, whereas yours is the new generation entitlement way that gives you things for nothing.
So you think it's more fair for one person to get all of the commendations when the entire group was good, instead of everyone getting one if a group was good? Really? Well now I know who to never give one to should our paths ever cross in a dungeon.

Your ideal system was that tank/healer and DD/DD exchanged all the time. That's the same thing as the system just giving everyone a commendation. That's more in line with entitlement than my sarcastic reply (clearly you missed the sarcasm).
If everyone is going to get a commendation for the run automatically, then it negates the system. Might as well just give everyone the rewards. Again, you missed the sarcasm.
I don't need your stinking commendation. I just got my princely hatchling today. Mind you that 90% of my commendations have come from my role as a DD. I know I must be doing something right when I get 2 (frequently) and 3 (sometimes) commendations from runs. If anyone was guaranteed the rewards for 500 runs, IT WOULD NEGATE THE WHOLE REASON THE SYSTEM EXISTS TO BEGIN WITH. I guess you missed that part.
The system isn't there to reward "good" players. It's to reward helpful players and/ or good ones who have made some kind of impact in the run. That's what the tooltip says.
I'd rather get 2 and 3 a run for trying hard to make the party have a good run than get 1 for every run (doing the same thing), and knowing that everyone is getting 1 too, whether or not they made an impact or were a good player. BTW: not all players are equal. Most of the time there really is only one player who was the good one.
Good tanks: hold all the aggro, mark, and recover when a problem occurs.
Good healers: heal and deal damage (as I do on my WHM)
Good DD: watch their aggro, burn their targets, cover the healer when they're in trouble, and--in my case--kite tank when needed to get the boss or pack of mobs down.
That's how I see it, anyway.
This is false. I get most of the commendations in most of my runs as a DD. If you're not getting them, you might need to reconsider how you're playing.
This. This right here. This. I do it for DD, too. I give my commendation to the player who I feel truly put the most into the party.I am usually the healer, and it's fairly obvious to me (and the tank too, usually) if one of the DPS is carrying the other. That person (the one carrying, not the one being carried) usually gets a commendation from me, unless there's a good reason to give it to someone else.

This if false! I get most of my commendations in most of my runs as a tank! If you're getting them on a DD you're clearly running with friends and getting them to vote for you.
See how that works?
Neither of use can prove the other wrong so why come to this thread being antagonistic and overly defensive to the other posters?
I haven't played post 2.1 so apologies if anything has changed but the Duty Finder leaves people with no reason to actually create relationships with players - most of them are on other servers, so you're never gonna see them again anyway. It's a terrible system, relationship wise.
After two months, I have just two friends, despite running dungeons almost every day.
Maybe try running with the Party Finder? I think that matches you with people on your own server. They might be more inclined to hang around.

Actually, I have made friends on duty finder. Many are on my server. I also made friends just talking to people on my server. If ANYTHING, FF14 has proven more friendly and social than WOW post-TBC. Game is new. Maybe that's why.I haven't played post 2.1 so apologies if anything has changed but the Duty Finder leaves people with no reason to actually create relationships with players - most of them are on other servers, so you're never gonna see them again anyway. I tend not to type much, I'm on the PS3 and have a USB keyboard, and I just dislike typing, I like talking to people, but typing annoys me, especially when I'm trying to heal and throw in some damage if I have the time.
