...the OP was aksing this in 2013, that was 6 years ago (and yes, I'm also shocked by that, it doesnt feel like it should be that long) - so... are you looking for an answer to this question yourself now? Or what is this necro about? What I think the poster is trying to ask is how can you determine based on the location of your small, medium, or large house what class it is? Is it on the placard? No. Only the size of the plot. Where can you see based on your location what is the class of your personal property. Thanks in advance.

Google the various housing maps. There are folks who have gone through and sorted out plot ranking and marked which plots are which already. Look for the ones that are color coded.
Frikking... seriously? I didn't even notice this was a necro that old! I think I need more caffeine...
Well this is an ancient post but I'd actually been wondering the same. There doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason to how the ranks are decided either... or at least, some seem to make less sense than others imo. Makes me wonder how SE decides on it.
As the best of my knowledge, the ranking was decided by the dev in the initial design for each housing area. Some of it does not makes sense at all, but it is subjectively affected by proximity to services, panorama, etc.
Ex: my house is on Lavender, 26, and besides beign relatively close to the MB, there's not an even remotely nice view. Still it set as first class.
For ref ther's the priceshart as of 3.3 (unchanged yet)

The moment when casually browsing the forum at work only to see a thread you started over 5 years ago appear.
But yeah price is based on location pure and simple so lets pretend this never existed and let it slowly fade back into the shadows mmkay?
It's just better locations. Waterfront, close to shops, etc... costs more. The plots are functionally identical.
Here's a map of grades
can see all the grade 1 is waterfront, the highest grade mansion is the one next to the hotspring,
Yeah some of them just seem super odd. Like in that pic... a large by the water right next to a market board is rank 4. What? I mean just... Huh??? Even the hot spring one doesn't rate a 1 or 2 haha.
I dunno, just kinda funny to me. Guess it's a little subjective. :P
Thanks for the reference though!
That doesn't really mean anything. Just a quirk in this particular mapYeah some of them just seem super odd. Like in that pic... a large by the water right next to a market board is rank 4. What? I mean just... Huh??? Even the hot spring one doesn't rate a 1 or 2 haha.

There's only 3 large plots per district so you can't have 1,2,3,4,5 so this mapmaker went with 3,4,5 instead of 1,2,3
the top grade mansion in kugane is the one next to a hidden mountain hotspring
The second one is the waterfront
and the third is in the back one that's sort of in a bamboo forest
The houses are more appropriately marked
The top tier houses are all beachfront with the second tier mansion(first tier mansion is kind of an extra special spot in the kugane map can think of it like tier 0 for comparisons sake), one of them is higher up on the cliff but is right next to the access tunnel for the isolated beach
the second tier house is just one row back from the beach
the third tier house is up in the bamboo forest with the third tier mansion
the fourth tier house looks like it's same as third on the map but it's actually a level down so it's up against a cliff instead of bamboo forest
and the fifth tier house looks like it's near the top tier mansion but it's like tucked in a back corner with cliff face on three sides of it
It all makes sense for the most part. Close access to special map features is a big factor in the ranking. Obstructed sides is a big factor in lower rankings
I suppose the only thing in Kugane that might throw people is those that prefer the bamboo might argue third tier lacks the prestige it deserves
