They aren't? did you even read them, lol. I wont even bother with you, you're new here.

But lol talk amount "emotionally invested". You didn't even read my posts but decided to blurt out the first thing your back side can think of probably because you want global chat and I was against it. And who is emotionally invested here?

Let's not continue to take this personal. Assumptions that I'm new because of my post count I take it? I've contributed a lot since day one of the Alpha test, but because I have a busy career in the game industry that doesn't allow me to individually respond and participate in every single gaming community I frequent, but I lurk a lot and try to respond when I have time on discussions that catch my eye.

I had read your reasons, but they didn't make enough sense to support the argument against it, I'm sorry. I simply did what most civil people do when reading some random person on the internet try to make sense of something and I lose interest in reading it--I moved on.

Then apologize since you're the one who started this conversation and took it in this direction.

I'm surprised you've held my interest this long as is. For the record I wasn't trying to "wow" you or anyone else with my responses but you just made my point, you guys are asking for reasons as to why to *not* have global chat and I gave them, twice. You "lose interest" because you're against my idea but my reasoning isn't half as bad as some people *in favor* of global chat. Again, wasn't really my point, my point was that I did respond and give reasons as to why but the people in favor of global chat decide to ignore them and then say "but give us reasons!"....well I did.

And for someone working in the gaming industry I'm gonna assume you're in your mid 20s, mid 30s...act like it.

EDIT: and for the record I've repeated 3 times that I wouldn't cry over it if global chat was implemented, I was just making conversation, but my apologies they aren't up to snuff for someone with a gaming design degree, you're too smart for the rest of us.

'General Discussion' on these forums is like a general chat. But everyone here is participating.

To be honest, if the forums didn't exist, many of us would have little interest left in this game. I personally spend 2-3 times more time on the forums than I do in Eorzea.

If there were global chat channels, I would probably spend more time in game. As it is, there is no one to talk to.

I'm pretty sure that as long as the game isn't F2P anymore, the global channel population will be of a decent quality. It's the case on every ultra-low population subscription-based game I've seen (VG, FE, DDO pre-F2P, Lotro pre-F2P). I'd be glad to see a counter-example.

    Ok, back to trolling.

I'd connect and troll all day long about the game. It would be very satisfying. I think I could even run a crafting bot or autorun around a camp to feel like I'm playing in the meanwhile.

In fact I did this with my original LS during the beta, but they all left the game at release. I wonder why.

If the game has a good party search system, also for wards and stuff.
I'm sure we won't need global chat to find party or sell/buy stuff...

But if someone wants Global Chat for random chat, that is another thing...
Then it is good when you are bored.. you can reading what's going on.. like that..

There are cons and pros for Global chat.

Sooo I would say,, better to have it..
If you don't want it? then give us a command to join/leave channel.
If you see ppl trolling on Global chat... we can always /blacklist them.

    What do you think?

I'm.. kind of against global chat myself. I admit, I'd not freak so long as I could shut it off - especially if it started shut off. But still, I've always found the idea of a global channel weird, and kind of thematically stupid, redundant but for the daftest and most annoying rungs of the game, and a discouragement on using the long range communication mediums like linkpearls.

I'd support a global channel ONLY if there is a 5 minute cooldown timer between every comment made in the channel. A global channel shouldn't be a place for conversation or spam. Once every 5 minutes is more that frequent enough for someone to say they're looking for a party/members or a LS recruiting, or someone selling something. If a new player has a question they can ask their question and enter into /tells with someone who is willing to help them without the whole world having to hear it. If someone want to come in and shout a line of abuse at the game world, who cares if it's only once every 5 minutes?

Without a cooldown timer between comments it opens the channel up to mindless bickering, much like can be seen on the General Discussion forums. This seems to be the main problem people have with the idea of global chat and it should keep both camps happy in regards to the uses of the channel.

Honestly, the last thing I care about is the chat system. If a game is fun, then I will figure out how to work around it. I played plenty of Resident Evil games online without even the courtesy of voice chat or written chat, and I was not deterred from enjoying myself online because the methods of communication were inferior. If Yoshi P can make this game fun enough that I don't care about the chat system, then improvements would just be icing on the cake.
