Once again, if you can't handle people saying things you dislike, then you shouldn't be on the internet in the first place.

Personally, I think it's hilarious when people get on and start making a fool of themselves. It's great fun to watch.

As for RMT shouting advertisements, they're easy to ignore. You don't have to get all upset and have an aneurism every time you see a line of text offering their services. Just report them, let the GMs take care of it, and move on with your life. It's not a big deal.

Yes, if you aren't in favor of a global chat channel, you must immediately cease your usage of the entire internet. Got it. I'm done here, have fun, CMs, you've seen my points, please make sure the opposition is also heard by the dev team. I'm not looking forward to having some little 12 year old KKK wanna'be spouting off each night when I'm trying to play Final Fantasy, I'd hop on Xbox Live if I wanted that experience.

I'm perfectly fine with optional global chat channels that can be created, enabled and disabled by the user.

These jaded points or arguments brought up against it that solely focus on how it will only be exploited by RMT and trolling is hardly being insightful or objective to this discussion. The anonymity of the internet has always been like this for decades and the nature of this beast is unavoidable. Just because a player is incapable of disabling an optional chat channel or putting a griefer on block is not the fault of game design--it is you. I say this as a game designer with industry experience and observations from various MMO's. Optional global chat channels that can be created, enabled and disabled by the user are harmless and do in fact enhance the social interaction of an MMO.

For example, I personally enjoy CCP Games approach to optional global chat channels for EVE Online. Just like FFXIV, you have your basic chat channels, but then you can add tabs to add in optional global chat channels based around various interests. EVE Online has an amazing sub-community of listeners for their streaming internet radio broadcast, EVE Radio, that are volunteer DJ'd by actual in-game players. DJ's will use the chat channel in conjunction with the radio broadcast to raise in-game currency for contests, take music requests, and have discussions with players on-the-air. Talk about a real sense of community!

Another example is all new players by default are dropped into a "Help" chat channel moderated by experienced in-game players who help answer questions about the game. Once the player has completed tutorials, the basic chat channels are added in with the "Help" channel to gradually ease them into the game's community. When the player becomes experienced enough they can then disable the "Help" chat channel. Another helpful optional global chat channel was for players seeking or recruiting for guilds. The useful possibilities of having optional global chat channels for artisans, sellers/buyers, mission seekers, etc. are useful indeed for any MMO community.

This right here would help new players to not feel so lost in a game that's less than intuitive.

I've only seen global chat in one game and all I know is that basically people were either too lazy to speak in the appropriate designated channel or simply didn't care and prefered to be obnoxious because all things ended up spammed in one channel and the other channels were never used for what they were meant for. I am against global chat. /shout is good enough and an actually useful party/world search with the search note system like 11 had would suffice for me to interact and find people

what could end up happening with it just turning into a toggle on and off, which out most likly alot of people would turn it off cuz its inviting spam so easyly, people may or not ignore shouting in the local citys and then the important stuff that people need that would get missed out on. Im not sure if it would' be a possitive thing to have added other than mabey a better placeo t advertise partys.
But then all that can be done with a better party system that everyone wants to use. I would'nt have faith in Se to have these chats Moderated well if at all if it was implemented either so it proberly end up being exactly what most people expect it to, just a big loud mess.
Different chat channels might work, but i dont expect the people to use them appropriately and correctly, just like what happened with the wards.
