My assumption is that unaspected means there is no resistance to their spell effects, so it's functionally unmitigated since neither Earth Fire Ice Water Wind or Lightning resistances will affect it.

That's the general idea, yes. There's no real benefit, though. Elemental weakness/strength was removed from monsters to keep players from demanding/denying certain classes for certain content.
There might be something to it in PvP. Players do have varying elemental resistances (determined by patron deity and possible materia stacking). Hard to say how much of a difference it makes, though. Since you can't predict the opponents you'll be up against, I can't imagine PvPers stacking elemental materia as a worthwhile strategy.
Very high Fire resist would probably neutralize Black Mages pretty well. I dunno how good they are in PVP, if at all, as is though. XDThere might be something to it in PvP.
