Day 2 PvP Tips for beginners

First and Foremost; "PvP has several undesirable qualities that need to be checked into or fixed."

There are some rules you should know when approaching PvP before you immediately write off the entire system as "Broken" or Classes too "IMBA".

Rule#1 Realize you aren't in Coil anymore.
I said that to say this, some people try the same mechanics they tackle PvE with only to end up defeated and frustrated. You are no longer facing a predictable program you are facing other people. While they may have identical skills and stats it boils down to who makes most use of the skills they are given.

Rule#2 New Stats mean take a New approach
Some people are outraged that they are losing to people who aren't geared as well as them. With Morale introduced and deemed to be "The Best Stat for PvP" it's kind of hard to ignore it as the game progresses. You may not like that your item level drops when you wear PvP gear but if you plan to PvP be prepared to encounter people who have accepted it.

    Rule# 3 Your Class has A Counter
You may assume that your <Insert Job/Class> can "PWN THE WURLD!" but I digress. Each Job has a Counter Job that will make your PvP life a living nightmare. You will learn this rather fast if you are adaptable to situations that involve you laying face up every time you encounter one. If you are playing at your 100% BEST A-GAME and you still can't seem to get the win or escape then you may just be dealing with your Counter.

    Hey Luceid!

    Strange to see people I meet in random queues on the forums... @.@;

    On topic though...

Read your tool tips! Make sure you know what your skills and abilities do ahead of time. Lots of skills you rarely use in PvE are life savers in PvP.

A few White Mage tips for good measure.

Fluid Aura and Stone are incredibly useful for opening up gaps on Melee that are trying to eat your kupo nuts.

Also, Stay Calm and Don't Blink! The best laid plans will not survive first contact with the other team. So think on your toes, and make quick decisions. Don't get discouraged if your perfectly thought out combo of Fluid Aura into Repose x3 into Stone gets borked by a random "helpful" DPS! Just always plan ahead and know where your safe zones are. (Places to get out of LoS.)

Improvise! Improvise! Improvise! Be unpredictable, try new things. Swift Cast has more uses then just Repose. Divine Seal with Swift Cast and Medica II coupled with a Regen, and you are well on your way to not needing a heal for 30+ seconds.

Don't hold onto your cool downs. Presence of Mind and Esuna Spam after ducking around a corner will clean a lot of DoT spells off you, or allow you to remove sleeps from your team mates faster before the bum rush on you happens, allowing them time to peal. (Get the bad guys off you).

Finally Keep your chin up! You will die, your team mates will die. Lots. PvP as a healer is pretty unforgiving at the moment, but with practice you can keep on trucking. Simple things like always knowing when your CDs come up or being out of LoS of the other team as much as you can, will save you a lot of grief.

Thanks for reading, and lets keep doing our best to keep the PvP community positive!

    How to win at PVP:

SMN > BLM > WHM > SCH > Everything else. Mark burn target. Everyone on burn target. Healer/BLM sleeps other healer/tank if you have that option. If healer is getting zerged, then healer needs to run and hug walls and corners. Stuff gets interesting as you get to rank 3/6/9 and so on.

Okay, so... questions for those who've done PvP far more than I:

    1. Since you're not going to have PvP-based gear/skills/etc when you first start out, how would you deal with that?
    2. Does the Duty Finder pair you up with/against people of similar gear types? Like, for example, will I end up getting a fully PvP-gear decked person in a random DF queue, or will I at least be able to fight people I'd have a chance against, stat wise?

You can buy a full set of PVP gear from AH, costs about 10k a piece, or just craft it. So no excuse really.

Skills, well they come, just have to suck it up, buy sleep resist pots and try avoid grouping as a 4, you will only go against 4 premade who will be organized. Going as a 1-3 its always 1-4 random and you pug your last one, you have a better shot.

DF seems to pick anyone, it cant be relative to rank unless the difference is low as at rank 8 and my friends at 9 we've had people join us in DF who were new and it was their first time.
