FFXIV Development Team vs FFXI Development Team

Just wonder how the FFXI team can manage frequent updates that constructively bring convenience to players, while the FFXIV team promised small patches but indeed fail even to quickly implement "0-anima warp" which seems a rather easy modification in the parameter of the game code... It took already more than 2 months' time (first mentioned by the great Poet Yoshi-P on 28 March*), and could not meet the 1.17b patch on 24 May.

I just wish someone can assure me that the whole FFXIV game programme is not outsourced to some low quality coding companies in China... (T-T) that even small changes involve language intepretation, remote communication, approval, testing, etc.

    I'll answer seriously:

Both are the same general development team.

FFXI doesn't need to undergo an overhaul of it's foundation.

FFXI is a 9 year old established and near it's end of life MMORPG.

FFXIV is having slow updates because attention is being focused on it's foundations more so than expanding. Nothing can be "quickly implemented" when you want to get out your main project as quick as possible, because then it's guaranteed it was thrown in just because with no testing. Which is why things like "Anima changes" won't happen till they finish up the main patch.

FFXI is bringing in money, ffxiv is costing them money.

You have to think at some point they are just going to look at it logically and fiscally. The playerbase for ff14 is small, even if the game somehow relaunches how many people are going to come running back, if it went pay to play how many would stay? I think they are slowly coming to this realization. Yes the game needs to be rebuilt from the ground up, but its name is already pretty tarnished. The only people staying around are there because of friends playing and linkshell communities. While this is good, at some point thats going to die off as people find a new game or better things to do.

You come to this forum and see people who hate the game.. but stick around being hopeful. Its nearly a year and the numbers are slowly declining and the game is free to play (opinion based, but seeing how many posts have people saying "well i don't even login anymore"). Hell, maybe Yoshi finally realized that he was put as captain of a sinking ship.

If it went pay-to-play those playing now would stay for the most part, those on the bar and who are waiting for it to become FF-WoW or FFXI-2 will quit.

PS3 if the game has content and the bugs are worked out... lets see ps2 subs in XI was around 320k subs, so I would say at least 250k subs from the ps3. PS3 is the major gaming consol in Japan for both Online and offline games. So you will see a massive boost to the population with the PS3 as long as they do not blow the release.

My linkshell alone we have around 37 people waiting to come over at the ps3 release if they have endgame added. And my linkshell is just 1 group.

Oh and about your dying game thoery if you haven't looked FFXI lost about 65% of its playerbase in a year. So the whole theory about them putting more effort into XI because it is doing better is pure stupid.

It amazes me how much the trolls are trying their hardest to get as many people to give up before 1.18 as possible in the last 3 days.

I've been on these forums non stop and no one has tried such a thing. If you're so sure this game isn't dying why are you even getting your panties up in a bunch about "trolls"? Most topics that have come up lately have been legitimate concerns about the game and no one was saying everyone should stop playing, I think the game says that for itself.

You keep using that same recycled excuse, nothings going to change after its done, it will still continue to be slow.

You clearly don't know what a overhaul means.

A major repair, remake, renovation, or revision; To modernize, repair, renovate, or revise completely
So whether it "speeds it up" or "still be slow" means nothing, it's the fact they're redoing it is why it's considered an overhaul. If you can prove that they're not overhauling foundations, you should tell Yoshida to stop redoing features like the battle system and supplementing the armory system, cuz you know, it's an excuse.
