    It's unlocked by one of the crafting class quests. I think it's the level 10 quest on the first crafting class you get that far (though once unlocked, it's unlocked for all crafting classes).

    I've never used it much, as it provides both much poorer quality results and also far less XP. I could accept one of those penalties in exchange for the ease of use, but not both of them.

    As stated above. Finish the Lv.10 class quest.

    They offer less xp and is essentially a 75% success rate. It's good for producing in bulk, but you will not reliably HQ and you may even fail some very basic crafts. Overall, you will have more successes manually crafting it and using "basic synthesis".
