I'm guessing originally they want some kind of player interaction so the repair bot would be the guy who has level 50 in every crafting skill and you'd huddle around that guy while he gets out his swiss army knife to repair everyone's gear. Sure that'd be stupidly tedious but I can see that as a twisted way to encourage people to have DoH classes leveled and community binding. Except, of course, that you can't actually repair your or anyone else's gear while inside an instance because you can't change jobs.
The thing is, you could actually repair yourself and other people's stuff in FFXIV 1.23 even while inside of dungeons, so..yeah the system was there but you really only have people who agreed to a "Complete overhaul of every system" to blame. They had quite a lot of good mechanics going in 1.23 that only needed optimization.

i dont care what other games do.. gear damage is supposed to encourage you to not die. If you were sensible enough to repair your gear before you went into a dungeon, and before you finish, all your gear is broken, its time to leave anyway. it just sucks that all these other games are removing any kind of sense of responsibility from players. your ONE job before entering a raid is to check your gear, and i guess even THAT is too much to ask of people. Whats the point of even having a gear damaging system if you put repair vendors everywhere, including dungeons?

Actually the point of having gear damage is because WoW did it and everyone copied from WoW, and if you're going to copy from WoW you should copy the portable repair guys + repair vendors everywhere.

I'd argue that gear damage is pretty much pointless and everyone is stupid for copying from WoW, but if you're going to copy from WoW then you have to follow through on the whole copying thing.

not sure why everyone thinks WoW was the first to do everything. and just because WoW puts their players in diapers and does everything for them doesnt mean that everyone else should. just be a damn adult and check your gear before you go into a raid. you wouldnt go to work without making sure your pants arent wrinkly would you? and like i said, if you have high durability on your items and they still break, why would you want to repair and keep throwing bodies at stuff with them? its bad enough that all these games keep going in a WoW direction, but then you get the WoW people that want the rest of it to be WoW too.. well im happy to let you know that WoW is still accepting applications
