Hi guys, really glad i started the thread now, got a real insight, happy to admit that after reading what people have said savage blade and rampart not the best....I really liked the one of shield lob and rampart so the healer doesn't have to in to hard right from the start, giving me more time to gain threat. Also liked flash and CoS as a starter. will do some experimenting as I'll be home soon and see what works best.

The only macros I've ever used as PLD are

    /ac "Spirits Within" <t>
/party Spirits Within used. Silence down <se.1>

    (For coil)

And a provoke macro. Again for coil. I pop my cool downs when I need them during boss fights. Or just rotate during trash.

I'd probably use macros more on PS3 since there's limited hotbar space but not for PC.

I understand it hasn't been a big deal yet (as you are a fresh 50), but you will need to learn to rotate your Cool Downs as you gear up and do more challenging content. On trash pulls, just use it in between enmity generation and learn to weave it in. You DO NOT want to get caught in a situation where you REALLY wish you had Rampart, and its down. I recommend Rampart, Sentinel, and Hallowed Ground all have their own slots on your bar, I macro all my other CDs (Conval, Foresight, Bulwark, Awareness, etc) into another macro and just burn them all when I am in trouble and have nothing else good up.
Would just like to point out, unless it's been fixed and I missed it, that Awareness is bugged and reduces ALL crits that can be landed on you. This includes any healing crits that might land. I used to use it all the time before I found this out and since (for the last couple months) haven't even touched it.

I'd recommend NOT using Awareness ever in a party situation where you need to be getting healed. If you're solo spiritbonding or doing trash mobs and such it's fine (even though it's still pretty useless) but don't use it for anything "difficult".

It's been fixed. "Resolved Issues" section of the patch notes:
An issue wherein the gladiator action "Awareness" was nullifying critical heals.

Using mouse over work best when you are busy with what you are having, e.g. large trash pull in WP.

does <ft> (focus target) work? If so I think it can be used with cover to possibly save a tank if stacks get to high from either coil or primal em.

    ex.

    /micon "Cover"
    /ac "Cover" <ft>

If you're using the cross bar, I would look into setting up the L2+R2 bar that they added to 2.1.

You need to go into Character Config -> Crossbar. Currently they've got it set up so you can have 2 separate bars depending on whether you press L2 or R2 first. I don't like this setup so I changed it so that they both do the same thing (in my case 8-right). This opens up 8 extra ability slots to use, which was more than enough for me. Then just make sure that whatever bar you have the L2 + R2 set to (8 in my case) is not visible with either the weapon drawn or with the weapon sheathed (it's another setting).

I find this to be a much more reliable way of getting access to all your abilities without having to use macros (which don't always work the way I want them to).

Personally I don't like fof with fast blade due to lack of control (popping near end of fight) I actually macro it with shield lob as I don't macro target numbers with skills. Handy to get the buff up at start of fight, then if in a long fight I manually pop it

I use a fair amount of Macros on my PLD.

As has been already mentioned above, I've found it very handy to have /partychat macros alerting other players to when I use three abilities: "Spirit's Within" (silence), Hallowed Ground and "Provoke".

The other two generic /partychat macros that I find indispensable are "PULLING ENEMY BACK - PLEASE WAIT TO ATTACK" and "DANGER - BE CAREFUL OF ANGRY <TARGETNAME>". With appropriate Auto-Translated bits and <se.N> alerts. The first of those gets used when I need to pull an enemy to a certain location or reposition it mid-fight. The second is used whenever an enemy is about to use a nasty ability in order to alert the party, or if I want to "politely" remind our other tank that it's time to provoke.

I also macro several abilities together in order to save space on my hotbars... but the one thing I do NOT do is use macros for my main enmity combo attacks (example: No Fast Blade plus Mercy Stroke!). This is because whenever you use a macro it overwrites any other macros you might already have running; and I use a /wait command in my "Hallowed Ground" macro to tell the Healers that it's about to wear off.
