I know I'm late to the party, but I liked the OPs post. That's exactly how I felt in XI and it is severely lacking in FFXIV

I've been supporting (Via the like button) a more varied world, (NPC interaction and the works included) as this is probably the most important immersion factor for me in a MMO. That being said, I'm definitely glad after 900 replies give or take, a response has been made.
Kudos to all, and I wish the dev. team easy yet rewarding work for themselves and the players! /huzzah
Addressing the OP
That doesn't mean we DON'T go anywhere, just that it's not essential. Content that takes us different places will serve us better than just redoing monster placement. One zone with mobs 1-50 means we don't have to go anywhere.
The one thing that DOES bug me in this department, is you have areas close by to your starting cities that are very dangerous except to higher rank players. The regions are too big to have just a small level range in each one; that said, we could narrow things down to like 1~25-30 in the regions containing the starting cities, 31-40 in coerthas, and some yet-to be released regions, 41-50 in Mor Dhona and future areas.
The OP seems to be forgetting that 50 is not going to be the end rank cap, and that new regions in the future will play host to the higher ranks, and not the current ones.
It's not a bad idea, it just makes something seem like a serious problem when it's not a major issue.
It does have to expand, unless you'd like 50 to remain the rank cap forever. So yes, it will, at a minimum when the level cap rises. The game doesn't HAVE to expand beyond the 4 zones we have. So will it?
For the sake of making this game a success we have to start with the starting zones or people will never get into the game. Of course they could just add more zones for us at higher levels but than this game would not be able to survive off of subscriptions. We have to think of whats good for the game 1 to 50 and not just the future of 50 to 100 or we will not survive.Addressing the OP

Hi Alhanelem,The OP seems to be forgetting that 50 is not going to be the end rank cap, and that new regions in the future will play host to the higher ranks, and not the current ones.

It's true that if the game *made* you do Guildleves in, say, Coerthas or Mor Dhona, then, sure we'd get some new scenery changes, but even those areas are pretty heavily Copy & Pasted. And people have been grinding on Raptors in Coerthas since the early days, so, sadly, as much as I like Coerthas, even that scenery is already growing wearisome.
In addition, your statement above isn't true: In our current 3 Starter Regions for Gridania, LL and Ul'dah we already have Camps for up to Rank 99. (Go to "Five Hangs" in The Black Shroud and you can enjoy fighting R99 Goblin Headmen; stop by "Cactus Basin" or "Four Sisters" and say hello to Rank 79 Inferno Drakes, etc., etc.)
All 3 Starter Regions unfortunately already *have* enough Aetherytes / Camps to account for future Level Cap increases, right now, which is why Siobu and many of us here brought up this additional concern.
Now that we've gotten an Official SE Response it looks like we're getting changes regardless, so that's a great thing.![]()
Regardless of where we *will* be headed in the future, new players and people leveling new jobs have to start at 1 and have to progress through 50 to get to a new level cap. 1-50 in the same zone will still be a problem or I should say WOULD have been a problem - but SE seems to be fixing it so no worries. The OP seems to be forgetting that 50 is not going to be the end rank cap, and that new regions in the future will play host to the higher ranks, and not the current ones.![]()
Still, even though you CAN stay in the same region, it doesn't mean you have to. I think the real problem is that outside of a few quests, you are never encouraged to explore. I think each AREA within each REGION should cater to a certain level range; you need to remember that each region is broken up into several smaller zones.Regardless of where we *will* be headed in the future, new players and people leveling new jobs have to start at 1 and have to progress through 50 to get to a new level cap. 1-50 in the same zone will still be a problem or I should say WOULD have been a problem - but SE seems to be fixing it so no worries.
I agree with the general gist of the suggestion in this thread; but I don't want to see it go from one extreme to the other, where we have to go all over the place every couple levels. shifts every 10 ranks up to 30 and 5-10 ranks thereafter would work. The regions are too big to restrict to a really small level range.

Glad to see that this thread got a response! ^___^
