If you started from Gridania, you're in the wrong game :P
Just picking.
I think I could travel the entirety of what I experienced in XI without using the map at all, even after three years...

lol as soon as I finished all missions on **WINDURST** I switched to Bastok lolol I was thinking **WINDURST** kind of looked like one of the areas from FFX forgot where lol. Even with Grid being hell, I still liked some of the stuff thereheaven's tower music was good lol

You're thinking of Windurst, bud.
Heaven's Tower music was lovely -- I think something I really liked about the XI music was the use of traditional and ethnic instruments in many areas. Pan flute, mandolin, harps, shakers, all that nice stuff that added exotic 'spice.' ^^
As opposed to predominately electronic creations.
Actually here....

Anything from Zilart to get the creative vibes on zone ideas flowing
Notice how each song fits so well with the themes of the zones, such cohesion.
(What XIV misses)

I just want to thank you for posting that link. Brought back some good memories of the XI days. The music in that game is just phenomenal. You are quite correct, the music for each zone was quite unique, therefore causing each zone to feel unique in it's own sense.Actually here....

Currently we one gigantic map per zone, where we the players are probably only using <5% of it. And through each of these giant zones we have one single background song for the entire map. I've gotten to the point where I've turned the BGM off, and blast Disturbed, or some Trance or Hardstyle in the background to try and make things a bit more exciting.
I just came across the Norg track on that link, and I recall walking into one of the tiny town settlements in Thanalan, and there was no change in music... it also looked like crap. The XI settlements had feeling to them. Individuality. Unique zone layouts, and personalized music to go along with it. While I realize this thread is about creating a more distinct, natural world that is fun to explore, the music should not be forgotten. Music is used to set the mood of the environment, or the battle, and plays an intricate part in making the player believe.

Retired FFXI character: Ranok of Sylph

You're welcome ^^ Pretty sure the original OST as well as the expansion OSTs are on there, Zilart just happened to be when I started, thus the most meaning for me.I just want to thank you for posting that link. I agree completely. Unique music in diverse zones is as big an issue as everything else expressed in this thread.
(Oh, and I tend to blast Shin Megami Tensei OSTs in my going-ons xD)

Thank you Eden and Aistaraina. Yes! It's a subtle thing that many people take for granted, but MUSIC is definitely another key reason why FF XI felt so varied and interesting, and why FF XIV so far is lacking.
As everyone's been pointing out, besides having one giant zone from Rank 1 - 50, we're stuck listening to THE SAME MUSIC TRACK from Rank 1 - 50 in the same ONE REGION.![]()
If SE does finally break up the zones as we're asking for, I hope we get some fantastic varied music as well.
To be fair, I think Mor Dhona's morbid, epic music is wonderful and evokes feelings of Castlevania + classic Final Fantasy (especially during its Purple Fog weather)but even that falls short if that ends up staying as 1 large region, with 1 music track.
Here's to hoping tomorrow's Producer Letter and Patch 1.18 is the beginning of greatness.![]()

I couldn't agree more. Being a musician IRL, I am one of those people who will continue to play with game music on long after everyone else has turned it off. The music is a large part of the experience for me, one that always evokes memories.
When I made the transition from FFXI to other MMOs, the music was one of the biggest things I missed. I remember nights rep grinding in WoW listening to my FFXI OST. Ironic.
Final Fantasy games have always paid great attention to detail with the music. Rich, varied, and epic music tracks for each zone. Battle music. Victory fanfares. Crafting music. Market wards muzak (LOL).
That's another thing that's definitely dragging us down while adventuring in Eorzea. With unique subzones, there should be unique music. We shouldn't have to queue up the techno just to keep us motivated.

My favorite memory, by far was also a traveling one, its one of the few examples i used to say 'ah the good old days of ffxi.
Me and 2 of my buddys had just started within like a week of each other, 2 of use started in sandy, my other friend in windy. What we had just realized at the time was that another guy from our HS that we knew happened to have been playing for like 3-4 months before us and we just so happened to be on the same server.
We wanted to go see our other friend so we could all level together, so we had him, a lvl 23 THF, take us 2, a lvl 11 and 12 WHM and RDM to Windy. it was a hell of a trip, going from sandy all the way to our first ride on the boat (which had ghosts attacking it) and trying to weave and dodge around agroing mobs from zone to zone, hitting up every HP we could get our hands on. Oddly enough we only died once. Ask me or my friends if we loved stuff like that, including The jueno run, or going to new zones in general (i remeber how impressed my windy buddy was with kazham), poking around those seeming "unused' parts to see if theres an NM there.
I just don't think FFXIV will ever give that same feeling, or ever come close to being as good, even with a full re-design, but the only chance it has IS with a re-design.
So when we getting a response? this things been up since last Tuesday and still nada.
