However, don't forget there are areas of Eorzea that we haven't seen yet, like Ala Mhigo, Xelphatol, Dravania, and Sharlavan.
Yea but those are the equivalent of Norg, Aht Urghan, Whitegate (I dunno what else I didn't stick around much longer after Aht Urghan) areas in FFXI which came much later. The current regions we have are pretty much equivalent to vanilla FFXI and if you count each section of the regions separately you will get almost the same number of zones from XI except that they decided to make them seamless and all look the same, at the expense of loading? someone said it best when they said the run between each area (i.e., central to eastern Thanalan) takes longer than a loading screen.

Don't get me wrong, I know they are not coming soon, but it is small glimmer of hope to know that it should be coming in that form at least.
And yes there needs to be more detail/diversity and less copypasta in each zone/region w/e. Why is it called Drybone? Where are the bones? Where is the water in Broken Water? Where is all the moss in Emerald Moss? They don't have to be obvious and cheesy things like that, but it gets the point across.

Also, it seems like they tried too hard keep it from being a bit like XI when everyone over 20 was in Jueno. They tried to make each zone self-sufficient for each starting city in XIV, almost as if they wanted us to stay in our home regions for the most part. Instead it made things pretty stale.

I would trade completely unique zones, full of vibrancy and life WITH a 10 second loading screen, over a "seamless" copypasta world any day of the week and having to travel even longer than 10 seconds between them. As long as SE knows the rest of the community feels the same way and strongly about it, maybe they will put more action into doing it.

    As would I.

And I! We fight for Scotland! But for cereals, great thread y'all, no squabbles or mud-slinging. Keep it going, and together with friends by my side, we can take down Kefka, err Eorzea '( ' _ ')

The potential is there, and there have been places where the zones do 'spice' it up, but a few holes in Thanalan and some purple dirt isn't enough in my opinion

I am for numerous loading screens in favor of more variety in the landscapes with a sense of direction. More zones also create more music for the zones which I'm also in favor for.

I'd like to join the chorus of voices calling for actual progression through varied areas as your character gains strength. The OP is absolutely right. There's very little feeling of adventure and exploration in this game. When I stop to think about it, for me that's the main reason why I don't feel excited to log into FFXIV.

All of you are right, and the development team needs to know it. They REALLY need to know it. The fact is, fixing this problem sounds like it would probably take a lot of time and resources. But the benefits of doing so would be huge. Honestly, it would put the fantasy into Final Fantasy XIV.

Unique and interesting areas are a must. I would prefer the world to be both seamless AND varied, but if for whatever reason seamlessness has to be sacrificed for variation, then so be it. In such a case they could still make area jumps a little less abrupt by changing the scenery somewhat near the zone lines (such as adding more trees in northeastern Thanalan near the zone to the Shroud).

Yoshida himself said that they can't charge for this game until it meets fans' expectations of a Final Fantasy game. He has also said that he wants the game to feel more like a Final Fantasy. Well, every mainline Final Fantasy game pulls you into a journey around the world. That's part of what makes them so appealing.

To the staff of FFXIV: No matter how difficult these types of changes might sound, please, don't ignore what we're saying in this thread. I believe it could make or break the future of Final Fantasy XIV.

I must say first off that i completely agree with the OP. I just categorize it in one of the reasons why XIV is still currently very Lack Luster.

It would be nice to see the terrain at least slowly change so it looks like your not in the same area 24/7. I am not a computer programmer or know anything about it, but there has to be some way to show this change. Even if it means slowly getting rid of one type of tree, plant, cactus, bush, etc and starting to add in a different one in its place. Then over a few hundred "yalms" u will be in an area which seems to be completely different.

I think this would accomplish the feeling of venturing off away from the city more and get you the adventure feeling a lot more.

Also they really need to implement more reasons to actually visit some areas like Mor Dhona or Coerthas. Even if that is getting leves out there for r 50 pts. (which every1 already knows means u start them in the low 40's in a leve link party)
This would help people from the feeling of omg i am going to be at BW from 36-50 doing the same couple leves everyday.

One more thing that i agree with is that bring in more different monsters to fight. killing a cockitrice since r 10 through 50 *Seriously WTF* Data miners have already pulled out a lot of different mobs that are in code. Why not use them and give us a world of diversity and wonder.

I just hope that our community reps can get our words to the Dev Team and overtime get some kind of answer from them. I dont even care if it is "we will look into that" At least then our voices are herd.
So please Bayohne our Fav community rep (atleast mine) work some magic for us. Thnx
