This is wrong. Last night my map dropped 250 wind shards and they went to a random player. I didn't get anything. The 8-man maps provide some easy weekly gil generation if you do them w/ 8 people and have more gatherers get your maps throughout the week. The loot is split(items etc.), but the gil/shards are individual to the char. So with 8 chars, each map can generate 14.2k to 40k (before selling mats) for your guild bank. That gets multiplied by the amount of maps that you have (1 gatherer can get 7-9 a week) and that really starts to add up after a while. 5 gatherers getting 8 maps a week, for 40 hunts (really easy to do) with 8 people, can give you 512k - 1.6mil. Sure that's not anywhere near the huge housing prices, but it's easy gil and only gets bigger the more people/gatherers you have.

Overall disappointed with the TH, so there are only 2 items worth getting, and you have a random chance of getting that random item to boot. If there wasn't a lockout on farming them, it wouldn't be so bad.

If you're in a heavily patrolled zone, like a Castrum or right by 50 Sea Wasps, trying to duo a 8-man map is just asking to die.I did an 8 man hunt yesterday. I only did it with 4 people but we could have done it with less. There were several waves of 3-5 mobs, but they all had pretty low hp. It might be a little harder to solo, but it is easy with 2-3 people. I have no idea why they thought you would need 8.
How do you gather treasure maps exactly? Like you'll just be harvesting and instead of the item you'll get a map?

Ok, what would you do if you get a drop like a minion in a 8 ppl party? I mean, you were the owner of the map, don't you have the rigth to keep that minion instead of loot for it?
"Every men die, but not every men really live"

Don't do it with a PUG, do it with your friends or FC mates, and agree beforehand that if a certain loot drops (in this case minion) that you get it and everyone else passes.

for '8' man stuff i just use party finder for a 4 ppl party and ask for them to use their chocobos. that way we only have to compete w 3 other players for drops.
