To always stay at the character's back and not force you to manually pan. A chase cam option.

Chase cam was a useful option in FFXI. I would like this implemented in to FFXIV, too.
I noticed the camera will auto follow you if you scroll your mouse, at least until you try adjusting it manually again. Was that what you were looking for? o.o
Lemme correct it a little, either run straight forward or auto run and mouse adjust. Seems to do it that way.
Edit: Bah, it's not really a full option, only seems to work for auto running.

so..the OP wants to be bad? The whole point of being able to move your camera around is so that you can have a better view of what's going on around you. Why you would want it always at your back is beyond me...especially against mobs like Uraeus

What the OP is talking about was called a 'Chase Camera' option in FFXI. It keeps the camera directly behind you, follows you, even when you turn around. FFXIV does not have an option like this. It forces you to manually pan the camera, instead of the game automatically doing it for you. I've been complaining about this since the beta forums, but nothing's ever been done about it.

yes i sooo want a chase camera,i love the game right now but the camera is killing me and for sure SE will not do anything about camera until the end of summer at least ..
Ah, this would be a nice addition.
I use the /targetnpc macro to target mobs. They're not always both infront of me, and sometimes one is off to the side of the screen or behind me. Targetting using this method is only as fast as the camera can be turned around to get the mob into view, so having it default to behind you would help speed battle up a lot.
Ideally, it should work the same as it does while in auto-run mode where you can still pan to some degree, but once you let go of the camera movement button it resets to directly behind you. As the facility is already there for auto-run I would hope it wouldn't be too hard to apply to everything else, with a nice little /cameralock on/off command to go with it.

Idk about you, but I've always like having complete control over the camera. Even in FFXI, I never used the chase cam, I always used the arrow keys to move my cam. Any other way is just inefficient, lazy and will make you bad. Camera always behind you? Ok, what if a mob is hitting you from behind? You won't know what that mob is because you can't see them without stopping your auto-run and turning around. Chase cam = bad idea. No thanks./facepalm
