choosing data centers confusion

I don't really understand why they gave us an option to choose data centers. Can we choose a different data center than they suggested for our server? I play on NA server but I'd much prefer using european data center for the duty finder. Can I do that?

From what I've seen it's more like a directory. Once you choose the data center you get only your characters in the list of available servers in that center. It just saves some time when scrolling. Still it could be done making another couple of tabs in the characters screen..

They broke the servers into Data Centers to lighten the load on the lobby server when logging in. Hopefully it will cut down on the login errors people would get.
