USB 2.0 will give transfer speeds of about 35MB/s. So I doubt the games will be slowed down to a lot let alone a visible level, same for SD cards.. they're about the speed of a laptop drive. It's impossible to make that judgment without the specs for the system, which they've been quiet about thusfar. As you can probably tell from the tone of my post, I'm not too hopeful. Considering that their plans for storage are SD and USB (which are god-awfully slow compared to the SATA drives that the other two consoles are using), I'm even less hopeful.

Hardware limitations? What kind of hardware limitations does the WII U has over the PS3? Do you pple just love to pull shit out of your ass? Nintendo didn't even comment on the specs plus they showed a tech demo which looked better then anything on PS3Ahmen sister, I honestly would be surprised to find any hardcore gamers that would consider this new system for hardcores. I'm not saying it doesn't have a place in the family room, however its not a platform that FFXIV could be easily ported to due to its hardware limitations and the differences in controls.

Personally I would hate to see what SE would implement if they had to design for another controller
(inb4 30 patches of "target mode")

Target modes can be made to be exclusively tailored to platforms(PS3, WII U and PC having their own target modes to suit the controls of the platform). As long as they don't advantage a platform over another there will be no problem doing that.
I don't care if it comes out on wii u, but personally i was HIGHLY impressed by the system. I can't wait for it.
I'm not a troll I'm just the voice of truth :P
I really want this to happen now, that controller could be so good for FFXIV. All your macro's and action bar at your fingertips, not having to skip around the action bar with my D-Pad or hold a trigger button to pull up macro's just hit the icon on the touchscreen, press a button to bring up the map on the controller screen, move chat logs and battle logs onto the controller to de-clutter the main screen.
There are a lot of possibilities with this tech just need SE to use it if they can.

I'm all for it as long as it doesn't slow current FF14 down. The last thing we need is to create another problem.

My general impression of the new WiiU was good. I think the new controller has a lot of possibilities. However, it wasn't what I saw so much as what I heard. I can tell from their emphasis on the concepts of "deeper and wider" experiences and "cutomizable playstyle" that they realize they catered a bit too heavily to the casual market with Wii. While I am sure it brought in a lot of new gamers, I am equally sure it lost them some too. Aside from that, the specs on the system seem like they will be on par if not a bit better than PS3 or Xbox 360. I also heard mention of online capabilities. So, although I will wait to see how the specs compare to the other 2 systems, the only real problem I can see at this point is a lack of a big hard drive. But they did say you could plug in an external HD via USB. All this added together makes me think that not only could the WiiU handle FFXIV, but it could be a more useful tool for those of us who are console gamers wanting to play MMOs. An all in one peripheral that lets me control my char, chat, and access menus and maps and such with a touch screen........... yea....... thats not looking bad at all.
Also from the above I don't really see too much that is kids stuff about this new system, and the way they talked and the people that were backing them made me think that, yes, they are trying to get back some of the more mid to hardcore gamers. I should know, I have been vastly disappointed in nintendo since N64. And ever since then, it seems like Nintendo has come up with one bad business decision after another. I still got Nintendo systems back then, but it was only for flagship titles. However, Nintendo completely lost me with the Wii...... too gimicky, plus I'm a lazy gamepad user and the wii mote is just too much like work. These days I mostly play MMOs and an occisional random game from a 3rd party developer (helloooo Dark Souls) (which means it doesnt matter what system I have), but the only first party games I care about are Nintendo games. Microsoft and Sony titles have never particularly interested me. I will still have to see more information, but if Nintendo is trying to make a serious play for more hardcore gamers, then sign me up. Believe me when I say that I would be more than happy to get trade in credits for my Xbox 360 and PS3 towards a good new Nintendo console.
The short answer: Hell Yes I'd like FFXIV on WiiU!!
.......... I can finally re-subscribe to Nintendo Power after 14 years!!! Rock!

LOL I would say bad idea but FFXIV needs more players desperately and I would take them anyway I could get them, not a bad idea after all. Doubt they will go for this though.
