Heh trains. So much fun. Except for zoning into Crawlers Nest or Garliage Citadel and being instantly killed by 20 mobs. Then when they finally move you see 10 players in a pile at the zone line.Yeah, it was back in Sarutabaruta on the Odin server.. It started off when I /emote stole some gil off a n00b and he started freaking out. (he didn't know how to check his inventory I guess..) That's when I began to "steal" everything and my friend would play 'good cop' and tell them how to protect their stuff.
That trick worked for almost the whole first week.
Another great memory was the pile of bodies near the docks Selbina (due to the Sea Horror) or the wholesale slaughter outside the gates of Selbina due to some guy training the SAM af mobs back to the town... I was pretty low level and we had no idea how to get out of there LOL.
Yup, that video is a prime example of how strong the community was.

Sky-
My best memories come from sky, to me it is the perfect endgame. I love farming god pops, killing gods, building our kirin sets, and just hanging out killing.
First day in sky we pulled despot and i was beyond excited (lvl 70 i believe not many ppl invited DRK back then >_<) so as we pull him to the lake to kite/dot, and in my excitement i cast bioII in the middle of a bunch of magic pots and elementals -.- group wipe and we lost despot....... good times.
My best moment was when my all windurst LS finally got our first kirin pop set. We poped him and about 5 min in a WHM called for help on kirin..... -_- so after we all wipe/logout and zombie we try killing again. After about 10x more wipe another linkshell came and killed our kirin with 25% left(mainly because they had watched our sad attempts for about an hour and wanted to start their pop). Luckily, they let us lot our 1 drop(Hecatomb body) and all of my ffxi luck came together into a 998 roll and i won it. Best moment of my ffxi career, fighting for almost 2 hours and failing was awesome and engaging and because of the kindness of another ls i got my drop.
My worst moment came when trying to craft the cursed harness, 2 diff crafter with 100+3 botched the synth, costing me about 1.5 mil to actually finish making the body -.-
edit: my actual worst moment joining a static pt for my first 75 (SMN, BLM, PUP,DRK(me),BST, PLD(sometimes a WAR or NIN the tank never showed up to the static -_-)) Slowest pt to 75 i think you can get, wanted to /wrist but played with the static group the majority of my ffxi career.
other great moments-
Beating Maat
Shouting for raises
First 75
/miss ffxi

I miss the strategy. You don't have a PL in qufim, someone had to keep track of the time you had to huddle up together by the entrance to the lake camp and not get aggro'd by undead pop until 4 in the morning in game time. EVEN at low levels there was strategy.
In xiv if they give us chocobos, please give us a quest for a chocobo riding license, not just "you can now pay gil for chocobos without a quest", I dont want to wait 8 hours in ishgard though >.<
I tried to trade npcs stuff in this game, still might offer to trade you when giving you a linkpearl in xiv >.< idk if i miss it...okay i miss it...i wanna kill ixals for their stupid necklaces to get fame in the far east and then have to TRADE them to a mithra who tries to jack your crap from you in a reworked gridinia mission for public companies? *wink*
That was mean to link the white mage vid for xi, makes me cry EVERY TIME!
p.s so many memories of just sitting in my mog house, listening to that music typing to people. I love xi because if you wanted to practice another language you could find a ls that was accepting to you because of that pursuit and they would try to help you while practicing their english (this was with french). I hate that in xiv, we're homeless and we don't have "jobs" (ha get it!)

I agree with just about everything others have brought up. I recall the Event Treant in 2003 the best though.

-The whole CoP experience. Most favorite expansion for the game, period. Challenging arena fights, the planning, farming, and gathering folks to do it; the scenery, the music, the exploration, and the storyline was all woven together to be the best experience. With the level caps implemented on the fights, you had a very strong feeling of progression as you made past each hurdle, and when that final hurdle of Airship was crossed... now that was a glorious feeling. Then they nerfed it all to hell so any cheap two-bit jockey can do the whole thing solo. UFOs need to prob those people good and hard.
-Assault, Limbus, and Salvage. Quick, requires planning and strategy to go smoothly, and doesn't require massive amounts of people. Rewards are also lovely, and isn't nearly as draining as Dynamis.

I have a lot of fond memories of FFXI
The first time my boyfriend and a friend of ours ran through Korroloka tunnel at 20-25ish (sneak and invis all the way) to Altepa Desert. We had no map of the area and are trying to find the entrance to Rabao, when our friend spots something in the distance... in PT chat he says "Hey, let's ask that dude over there" and he runs up to a cactuar only to get one shotted!
A whole group of us at level 20ish decide to try and climb to the top of Delkfutt's Tower and complete Mission 3-3 (killing Porphyrion). It took us a couple of hours trying to get through the floors (trial and error with teleports), sneak and invis dropping at all the wrong times and having to stop and kill goblins etc on the way. We finally make it to the 10th floor knowing that we have to kill this big Gigas. There was a 75 BLM sitting by the portal at the top and he offered to help kill it with us. I think he cast one spell and it fell over; we were all pretty amazed at the time and hyped that we'd managed to finish the mission (ok, with some help) and that our hard work was not in vain.
Camping for a whole week in Ordelle's caves with a MNK friend, with no ToD, and finally claiming Morbolger against another person camping so that he could get his Brown Belt (they were like 1mil at the time and we were noobs that couldn't afford that then).
One of my first parties in the Dunes, someone managed to link a dragonfly and we were getting beaten up pretty badly (I think our tank died) then someone started curing us who was standing nearby and after a few minutes we managed to kill both mobs and recover (I don't know why they didn't just pull it off us at the time thinking back). I checked the player to see that they were a level 40 something RDM and I was like "that's cool, I want to be able to help people out like that"... I played RDM for 5 years after that and loved it lol.
Aht Urhgan Mission 44- Nashmeira's Plea- our PLD accidently covered the wrong person and I died after chainspell nuking Raubahn down (tactic was melee kill first, magic second and then however on the third). We managed to beat the fight though with not a lot of time to spare (not the best party setup- DRK dual weilding swords...., RDM, BLU, PLD, SMN, WHM) and the music from that fight still gets to me. Alexander was definately a fun one ^^
First time running through Caedarva Mire (I was level 50 I think) trying to get the outposts with my heart pounding, trying to dodge truesight Imps and then later Soulflayers. Oh, and chigoes... god I hated those little buggers just suddenly popping up out of the bushes.
Beating the Promy's way before the nerf- the sense of achievement at finally reaching Lufaise Meadows with a rag-tag bunch of strangers...
But, the best COP fight of all before they nerfed it was One to be Feared. I think it took us 4 or so attempts to finally win that fight; we always had one wipe (either on Omega or Ultima I forget now), but I always remember that as long as you didn't die more than once you still had enough time to recover and complete the battlefield. (Now it doesn't matter of courseI was so sad when I helped some LS people out getting Sea and beat the airship fight so easily.)
Dawn was an exciting battlefield, running around in what looked like space with Prishe and Selh'teus fighting along with you. Seal of Quiescence was horrible (AoE mute, couldn't be removed with echo drops) but otherwise I didn't think this fight was as hard at the time as One to be Feared. Loved the whole atmosphere thoughPlus... Rajas ring at last!
Someone managed to call for help on Kirin in our LS hehe, took probably 10mins of relogging of all PT members and reforming to try and finally get him back claimed with one person kiting and a healer keeping an eye on them. At least it only happened the once... although we did have someone cfh on Byakko once too lol.
So many fun battles in FFXI- Divine Might, Storms of Fate, One to be Feared, Dawn, Nashmeira's Plea, Sky Gods, Sea Gods, Odin in Einherjar.... I really hope that FFXIV will end up giving players the same sort of fond memories, sense of achievement and fun (yet sometimes frustrating) battles. ^^
Oh oh oh! Memory rush!
First starting the game, was picked up by a friendly Bard who got me setup, and got me my Rank 5 before I hit level 9. No clue at all what I had done, or how tricky this was at the time for other players, and I easily got my airship pass. I was tractored through Castle Oztroja from entrance to the one way door, to get my missions completed.
So many memories have come back since reading these posts. Kinda glad I started this one now![]()
You know what gets me? the sound home point crystals make when you stand near them. Awww yeah.
Really hope that in 8 years I'll be thinking back to XIV nostalgia but man, dat FFXI. Can't wait to get home and level my DNC.
