Since you can train any job on any character, why would anyone create an alt?
Is it so they can store up rest XP and levequests or somethin'? New race?

The only reason I've ever thought of making an alt would be to sell/buy items specifically for the FC I am the leader of. For example, if we are spirit binding with the intention of selling the materia to make money for FC housing... I would sell it on my alt so none of the money from the sale would get mixed in with my own personal money. Keeping track of all of that would be a real hassle when I could just sell everything on one alt and have her dump every single last gil into the FC bank whenever a sale is made.
Raiding lockouts/Weekly limits on currency. If you want the very best gear, anyway, it's best to focus on one job. Depending on your luck with raid drops you may need anywhere between 0 and 5 or 6000 of the endgame currency, and you can only earn 450 per week, so it would take you up to 10-12 weeks to gear one character up to max.
Patch 2.1 significantly changes that, and getting accessories will definitely be much easier, but armor will still take alot of effort to gear out. At the very least I would have two characters. One for all the disciples of Magic and PLD, and the other for Warrior and all the other DPS classes, just because that minimizes having to re-level for cross-class skills, that's just my personal opinion.
The only reason I have an Alt is to see how i look in different armor...but then i started using it to sell stuff and all that jazz![]()
I am a winner, even though I sometimes fail.
I do it for change of appearance. I have a Lalafell who does only DD and tanking.
I do everything on one character, although I am running low on inventory space so an alt might be in the future
I have a 50 PLD on one character and a level 50 BLM on another character - I mostly use caster characters on the BLM and Melee on the PLD.
I did it so I could get Mythology tokens on both characters to gear them up faster, and to run CT/Coil twice a week instead of once.
There is a very valid reason to create an alt - in fact two alts.
This is the fact that the main storyline has three different styles based upon your starting city. So for a true experience of the story (not the game mechanics) you must have a character for each starting city.
This is of course not needed for the game but only to fully enjoy the story.
For something different to look at. To experience the starter stories from different cities. And to level up a class with questing rather than FATE grinding.![]()
only reason id make n alt is for storage.... the storage system needs a complete overhaul ._.
