you can still see the players name in the log, so it really wont prevent smack talk

Well, it is called ウルヴズジェイル ''Wolves Jail'' in Japanese

But back on topic, I personally don't mind it.
I do find it rather weird that the battle log will show all the names though. Doesn't that sort of defeat the purpose of using the fresh meat title?

Its a horrible idea imo. "Smack talk" is just something we must bear with, rather than do something as ridiculous as this..
Pretty much the only thing I really dislike about this game is the amount of forced control over everything. Guess thats the japanese way.

If its just getting a new title then, meh, I'd still prefer displaying my own name. Most games with titles display them separate from the player name, accomplishing the same thing without the silly sheltering vibe.
