Gil is a problem when there are several people on my server with cap gil and they control the market because of it. One guy hit cap gil soon after the november patch nerf on gil rewards from leves. Not saying it won't happen again.Gil isn't a problem in the game, we're just stuck with a high number economy. I know loads of people who have or are near 100mil gil, it's not a lot of money. It just looks it because it's a big number. They do need to up the current cap from 999,999,999 however as people will be reaching it before long.
Anyway rolling back anything would be a fast way to kill FFXIV. The playerbase would drop to 0 over night.

I find that very hard to believe. You're trying to say he was making nearly 20mil per day since the game's release? I'd be surprised if anyone anywhere has capped gil yet, but it seems likely some will by the end of the year.
And anyway, if you want to control the market on any given item you can do that with 10mil or less. All that having a lot of gil gives you is the power to buy expensive +3 items. But the people with the most gil aren't the ones buying these, they're the ones making them.

Large amounts of gil are not, and I'd be willing to argue could never be, an issue.
How does a person earn gil? -- By spending time gathering/creating items and then selling them to people who want them. This is a good thing, always.
How does a person get rich? -- By using their money wisely, not wasting it, but saving it. This doesn't hurt anyone.
Why can large amounts of gil not be abused? -- Because in order for him to buy out markets, he has to give away large amounts of gil. If people are smart they'll just flood the market with these items or farm them themselves, either way if someone tries to jack up prices, it only works as well as people are willing to subject themselves to arbitrary prices.

On Topic: No wipe coming. Aside from them already explicitly stating they would not, if they then backtracked and did so.... well it's not the best way to reward your most loyal players.
