I think the combat you see in the trailers for FFXIII Versus would be the way forward.
I don't want Devil may Cry / third person shooter gameplay for an MMO.. that would be off imo.
Auto attack is very important to XIV's gameplay not sucking... pressing 1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1 does to make for any kind of excitement.
+ Versus XIII will probably be as bad as XIII was, I will pass on that.

I'm not saying the combat we have now is good either. I just don't think going back to auto attack is the right answer.
If they could make the auto attack much faster than XI, then it probably wouldnt be the same old same old. I think that is what Yoshi and team have planned. I'm not sure how they would be able to make it THAT much different from games like WoW or Guild Wars 1/2, but you never know.
Im pretty sure it wont be as slow as XI's auto attack was, regardless of weapon delay. Maybe this will be the best way to incorporate the different stances that were talked about early on (The gladiator circle image, and the pugilist defense------offensive chart)?

I'm love how people instantly assume that auto attack means you won't be hitting 1-9 alot. Go try WoW or Rift and let me know how that worked out for you.
Yes, what we need is WoW's and Rift's combat system. Hell yeah. That will so make the game stand out.

Oh they dont know. It wont do anything for this game.... Hopefully, they're 'new battles that will require auto attack (for whatever reason)' will be hard enough to warrant having it.

Since they've already said they're implementing it, my only hope is that there is a way for me to turn it off. Do not want, do not need.
