    [dev1022] Auto attack: A complete battle system

    lost a lengthy post due to login time out, lets see if I can make this quick.

    Some of us want auto attack other like the active battle system. How about we do a little of both.

    All basic attacks are now auto attacks. Attack and be turned on/off (while weapon is drawn) as not to break sleep or bind or other forms of crowd control. The rate of attack is based on weapon type. So 2 handers attack slow but hit hard, and one handers attack fast but light. Auto attacks generate TP which is used for abilities or weapon skills. the Rate of attack can be augmented through the use of food, spells or gear.

    Stamina remains in place and is used to govern the amount of Spells/Skills you can use in a time frame. Stamina is regenerated at a steady rate which can be augmented through food, spells or abilities.

    Spells, Weapon skills, and abilities consume TP and/or Stamina and can be used at will as long as you have the available TP and/or stamina to do so.

    Battle regimens abilities can be cued up (TP and stamina for skill consumed) Auto attack continues until regimen is completed or canceled. No WS or abilities can be used while cued for a battle regimen.

    I think a battle system of this type allows for the fast paced action of firing of abilities spells and weapon skills while taking the chore of basic attacks for TP gain out of the equation. This allow room for socialization while in battle and creates less for a work load for the player.

    I have been playing DC Universe Online, and I really like the way they handle things (at least on the controller side).

    They do not have auto-attack, but I think auto-attack works in a FFXIV setting.

    Drop the basic attack from the command bar (this is what auto-attack will use)
    Hold the Left-Trigger and use the 4 button for the first 4 actions of the command bar
    Hold the Right-Trigger and use the 4 buttons for the second 4 actions of the command bar

    This however leaves one command without a button...I'm still working on this idea. I just hate having to constantly move around the command bar to select an attack instead of just hitting a bound button combination.

    I agree. Taking out autoattack was an interesting change, and worth the experimentation, but in the end, it removes too much from the game. Not being able to socialize because I'm spamming 1+2 is a big hit.

    I personally have gotten used to balancing the stamina gauge but agreed that auto-function would be a complete battle system. Give us auto-attack but keep stamina for abilities. Also, what NovaX81 said, it is a bit difficult to speak while battling because you lose DPS.

    This could be a nice compromise, even though i like the current system much better and i believe after a certain rank most of the people will turn it off, but i can understand that at the first days in game when you don't have a lot of abilities and you still have to learn how the battle system workss it can be frustating.

    I don't like only 2 points:
    - normal attack don't consum stamina
    - auto attack keeps going during battle regimen

    This way the auto attack is basically a dot. Making it consume stamina and stopping it during battle regimens will keep the battle system more tactical.

    I have also been playing DCUO, its a different game but hey CONTENT AT RELEASE WTF IS THAT lol. But for XIV I would like to see auto attack be implemented only if they beef up the mobs. If they mob is a zerg fest and we have auto-attack, we'll zerg with auto-attack.

    I concur with this post! Especially at the beginning, auto-attack would make things much easier; amidst all the problems I have with targeting despite the new target updates (targeting an enemy much further away than the one right in front of me, WOO), I don't want to worry about mashing the attack button over and over, too.

    I mean, if you're going to have to do that, timed hits or something would at least make it more interesting. But apparently most people don't like timed hits, and this game doesn't need another new feature like that to make things potentially more annoying/ill-implemented.

    This idea seem pretty much like the auto-attack system from FFXI, with the additional feature of being able to turn auto-attack off.

    Please correct my ignorance if I am mistaken.

    This is gettin annoying

    YOU DON'T HAVE TO SPAM ATTACK

    Is it really that hard to understand? How have you even thought that a battle system could be designed around spamming attack? but most of all why at rank 12 you think you have enough knowledge to say something?

    EDIT: I'm sorry if I'm rude, I don't have anything against you, but I'm getting really tired of all those ppl not playing or playing a little or that just started playing and that think this game is so broken that is open for everyone's creative mind.

    You don't like it from the roots? give up playing, there are tons of mmos you'll enjoy much better.
