AK gear doesn't get nerfed. It's the dungeon that get nerfed. Still gives 100 philosophy and the adjusted 30 mythology. Nothing has really changed except you can do Crystal Tower for one i80 loot per week.
which dungeons? Did they nerf AK gear from i60>i55?. The reason you dont' go from i45>i70 is because it takes forever to get that much DL and not optimal. Pre patch i was collecting i60 hoplite from AK and using phil tomes to fill missing slots with DL. I have a feeling this was how game is intended vs running Castrum 40 times.
Except whenever you do DF if your not already in DL people leave making it hard to farm tomes of any kind. Making you dependent on your FC to even do it in any effective way.. unless you're lucky.
A fresh 50 should still work on getting AK gear before Darklight, especially a Tank if he decides to ever upgrade his Darklight body/legs.
Also considering the Price of Darklight body/legs, I would suggest using he philosophy tomestones your obtain to get a Darksteel body and legs, which are the crafted versions of Darklight. They have similar stats, however you can Meld materia into them. With the new quest that offers tier IV materia, you can use those (specifically ACC) in your gear. Besides that, I would work on getting all Darklight accessories and your Hoplite ring.
While gearing to Full Darklight/Darksteel, you should be trying to progress on your Relic quest. I would suggest getting your King Moogle weapon from that primal fight, however you can get away with any any primal weapon during the relic quest. You can get these weapons by doing the primal fight (unlocked through the relic quest) until it drops.
During all of this, i would suggest doing Crystal Tower every week for your weekly ilv80 piece, and after you get your relic weapon to start working on the extreme mode primals/hard mode utlima to get an ilv90 sword as well as potential ilv90 accessories.
It should also be mentioned that the Duty Roulette is going to provide bonus tomes on top of what the dungeon already provides and even *more* if your role is in demand (which, given comparative role populations, is pretty likely for tanks). Since the content that the roulettes apply to is virtually all entry level 50 content (the "High Level" roulette is the 5 HM dungeons and only have an i-level requirement of 48), you should have no problem running lots of roulettes (I didn't see anything about them being limited to one per category per day, but I might have missed it) to get Philo and Myth tomes as a fresh 50.
From the screencaps we've seen, it looks like even the low level roulette is going to provide 100 philo and 10 myth tomes, which means that it's going to be remarkably easy to gear up to i70 (easier than it *already* is).
Honestly... depends on your skill as a tank. Though it'll change in the upcoming patch, I'd say farm WP/AK regardless of you're gear. Skill can make up for your lack of gear(assuming that gear is your quest gear at least). If not then take the long way. Farm CM/Praetorium until you have tons of tomes for DL. Generally it's WP to AK. Since WP is suppose to be easier and provides i55 gear while AK provides i60 gear.
Yoshi-P stated in the Nov 22 live letter that AK is being nerfed to make it more in line with WP and specified that gear is being nerfed too. The patch notes mention this also but it's a bit more vague.
Hoplite gear is still ilvl60 on the Eorzea Database, which was updated for 2.1 already.
