    Piety discussion!

    Hey all,

Upon doing a bit of research into what I thought was a completely dead healing stat I discovered the following:

Piety does two things, despite only saying one. Not only does it increase your maximum MP, but also increases your passive in and out of combat MP regen. In other MMORPGs, MP regen has traditionally been given its own stat, in FFXI it's simple:

While in combat you regen ~2% of your maximum MP every ~2-3 seconds.

Here are two examples of numbers used in a 10 minute Titan fight.

A healer with 4,000 mp will regen ~16,000 mp over the course of the 10 minute fight passively.

A healer with 4,800 mp will regen ~19,200 mp over the course of the 10 minute fight passively.

If you a scholar, here is the difference (assuming you're using Aetherflow every minute.)

A scholar with ~4,000 mp will regen ~16,000 mp over the course of 10 minutes PLUS ~10,000 from 10 aetherflows.
    TOTAL MP REGENED: 26,000

A scholar with ~4,800 mp will regen ~19,200 mp over the course of 10 minutes plus ~12,000 from 10 aetherflows.
    TOTAL MP REGENED: 31,200

Just some food for thought now when you're choosing which stats you want to prioritize when choosing your equipment. If you choose to put half of your attribute points into Piety, and choose accessories and a weapon that boast piety you could very well end up with an extra 4000-6000 MP at your disposal over the course of a 10 minute fight.

I suppose in a perfect world we could all just put our points into mind and have bards refresh us whenever we would like -- but let's face it, those bards aren't always terribly worried about our MP status!

On attribute point distribution: lets say you split points between MND and PIE 50/50, your base heal for cure is now 750 ish compared to 950-1050 with all points in MND. so the effect being that you use more MP to maintain raid HP because of less cure pot thus offsetting PIE increase. its better to put ALL points into MND and build PIE with gear if you so desire.

Please test again, each point of mind offers one point of cure potency. By taking 15 points of out mind, you will lose 15 points of cure potency, which in my experience will translate into ~20-25 less on each cure on average.

You will not go from 750 to 1k+ from 15 points of mind.

SCH don't need the extra MP but WHM do. As a WHM, I value mind, spell speed and piety. Once you are stacked with ilvl 90 gears, your mind will be so high that you do not need to worry about it anymore. Having a lot of PIE means faster MP regeneration and less or no dependent on mana songs. Having higher spell speed means faster casting of spells especially stoneskins. But yeah once I get the coveted allagan cane, I will have over 5000 mp so the mp regen will be crazy.

Don't give the secrets of pure Piety builds away! XD

Piety is important, in my personal opinion, in various ways (from a WHM perspective, sorry)
*Because you get a % of MP regenerated per tick depending on your total MP, more Piety = more total mana = more regenerated MP per tick
*It often helps prevent overhealing aggro by having less Mind. If you need more potency on heals, that's what Divine Seal is for
*Bards aren't pasted to the caster's backside in case they run out of mana. Shroud of Saints also benefits Piety built healers immensely
*I think MP costs are set, scaled depending on your level (which is why MP costs are less when synced), so even if you go out of mana, you can recast after 1 or two ticks.

    The downsides are there, too.
*Bad for speed runs, or runs dependent on Cleric Stance/DPS which needs Mind builds instead
*Drawn out battles for soloists that don't max out their Mind stat and switch to Cleric Stance to finish off enemies quickly

I'm happy with my setup, though. Mind is incredibly prevalent in healer gear, whereas you're only likely to find Piety stats on aetherial gear or certain gem accessories. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, as I'm a more casual player. If a dungeon run or fight goes smoothly with no deaths, that's the most I can ask for. Doing it fastest, most DPS, etc. is irrelevant to the way I play, so....

Piety is a stat you should pick on your gear not in your main stats imo, but I do agree that a lot of people severely underestimate it.
Examples of piety variables can be found between allagan and hero accessories. Some have 8 while the counterpart has 12 making the one with 12 the better choice.

Being able to spam the better heals to just "heal-overpower" content is amazing and can't be done without a big mp pool

Once you'r hitting all ilvl90 though and eat some vit/pie food (which is gonna last through death now) your mp is high enough to comfortably overheal without ever running dry.

Also people saying SCH doesn't need piety due to amazing mp recovery r completely clueless.
The more piety the harder you can spam Adloquiums and even spam succor for the heck of aoe healing.

It allows you to overpower content and regen that much more mp, making the fight easier on everyone.

Ive always wondered about this. My scholar is mostly mind (I think +8 mind, +4 on piety I think can't check it right now) but I've always wondered if more piety might help. I like adloquim spamming... and more mp would certainly make that easier to do just that
