Hello everyone. I'm starting up this thread to track the progress of the patch as it progresses. Earlier, people were a bit frightened about how the launcher wasn't responding. Let me clear up the issue in my own words: the launcher was most likely down due to some of the "tasks" that the dev team was talking about in the maintenance notes. Perhaps they had to do something with the launcher that required them to restrict access to it. It's anyone's guess at this point.

But on to more demanding news! To those of you that do not know, the launcher is back up. The patch can be downloaded right now, but the servers are still down. They've most likely implemented the patch by now and are headed to work on splitting the servers up. This is good news imo, it may be possible for the game to be back up in a matter of hours, depending on how many more tasks they have to complete. In any case, I suggest going ahead and downloading the patch while the servers are still down, so your launcher will be patched when they open the servers back up.

I'll keep an eye on the patch progress and notes and update the thread with anymore relevant information. If anyone catches anything of note or has some theories on when the game may be playable again, feel free to post them here. We can have a discussion and answer any questions people may have that are still in the dark about the whole thing.

EDIT 1: The servers should be coming up around 2:30am-3:00am EST if we're going by the maximum time that was listed in the patch notes. Currently, it's 9:34pm at the time of this edit, meaning there is only roughly 5:30 hours left until the servers come up. In the meantime, why not join our discussion? It helps to pass the time!

Yeah, the download is really taxing. I think it's also re-downloading all the game files as well, I don't think a patch would consist of another 3GBs, but I could be wrong.

People discussing long download times...i have a pretty normal internet connection (or so I thought?) my download only took 8 minutes.

PS...i know its a major patch and they said it would take 24-hours...but come on SE I wanna play lol. I'm driving 10hrs tomorow to visit family out of town and their internet is "spoody" please hurry up

I'm curious as to what your download speed is. I'm currently sitting at a steady 0.08MB/s.

I only had the time to see it was going at 15mbps+ and then it was done.

UK doesn't exactly have the best internet but discussions like the ones in this thread really make me wonder why the standard is so low in other countries.

patch downloaded very fast no issues 3gb patch is nothing WoW is 20GB game now ff is now 10 gigs with this patch and the graphics and FF are amazing

Well, patching generally means changing certain aspects of a game and adding in new content. A lot of content was added in, but I still suspect a majority of it was just older files being updated. If it really is 10GBs now, then i'd be wondering what exactly 3GBs was added in if the major points of this update was to split up servers. 1GB is still unaccounted for because the original files only consist of 6GBs, give or take a few MBs.

EDIT: Never mind, I just re-read the patch notes and realized i'm speaking out of my butt on this one. It seems like adding in base content is a big majority of it, the other 1GB is probably updates to correspond with the improvements to their servers that is supposed to add in more flexibility on them when it comes to multiple instances being ran at the same time.
