At the install folder, inside there is 2 folders called boot and game. Go to properties, sercurity, advanced/ First change permissions to every account has full control over that folder, Apply/ Second go to the Owner tab and make sure the account you use has ownership over the folder and before clicking apply, at the bottom left of the window there is a check box to apply to all subcontainers and objects(check it), Apply/
This requires you're the administrator on the pc with full access to everything, run the launcher in administrative mode just in case after this. Perhaps apply both these settings to both folders, boot is the important one though.
Notes: install folders can vary, why I didn't specify a location, usually is located in C:/Program Files (x86)/Square Enix/*****
If its not there try the normal Program Files, if not there. Right click the icon on your desktop, in the menu select Open file location.
If it for some reason doesn't work, I can perhaps provide alternatives to getting it instead, may or may not be more of a hassle though to install hue hue.

Welp, tried safe mode again. Still no progress. I guess I'll have to wait til someone puts up a torrent. This is getting tiresome. Same errors every patch. Same lack of response from se.
edit: Gonna try to redownload the client, to see if that works.
edit 2: Still the same error.

I would just like to chime in to this thread. I don't know how, but I got I'm finally in.
I tried just about all of the fixes recommended by everyone in here to no avail. Finally, after a long day of trying, the download went all the way through (instead of stopping at ~1GB, like most people here).
I don't know how it happened, but it seems rather random that it finally pulled through. One small detail to note though:
Every other time that it failed, my download speed of the patch was bizarrely, irrationally high (I'm talking in the neighborhood 7mb/s).
I knew it finally worked when the download maintained a reasonable rate for ~.20mb/s. I've had this problem every single time I've installed/updated this game.
I wish I could be of more help, but the way it finally worked really was random. One thing I can say I did right before it worked was I deleted the ffxiv patch folder, but then again I had done that just about every other time I tried.
I can't wait for the next update/nightmare.

This is still a major problem and has been since launch for PS3 and PC.
(Reference thread for PS3 I started in AUGUST: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...06-20641-20643)
Square, I dunno what the fuck is causing this, but you guys need to get off your asses and start helping those of us with this issue. Like now. Because this isn't a small, isolated incident you can hope we figure out on our own.
All troubleshooting steps in this thread are incorrect -- none of them work, and if you think they do, it's placebo effect because it /happened/ to push past the ~1GB mark.
These downloads are failing on 3 computers and 1 PS3 in the same household, on my end here.
It would be helpful is SE's self-help knowledge base wasn't fucking more useless than their actual support reps, as well.

Another note for if the tech support guys are actually reading (which i doubt), it keeps failing after downloading 1058.16 MB.
edit: This is a fresh install of windows 7. My internet provider is Time Warner.
