    Monk 2.1 Discussion

Dont feel like posting a wall of text, but over all i am very pleased with the Monk buffs in this new patch. The nerfing of Internal Release (lol) is incredibly unfortunate (especially for other classes), but with potency increases in multiple skills and CD reductions, i think Monks got the better end of the deal. Any gripes with anything regarding PvE (more position dependant now) or PvP skills (instant Greased Lightning stacks, long Cool Down)?

FFXI community will always be better. Some of you self entitled kids need to learn how to be appreciative when others help you in game. Saying please or thank you never killed anyone.

Internal Release is still the same for us as the trait is unaffected. Like Yoshi said if you played monk like the class was intended (switching between flank and rear for different skills), it'll be much better now. Personally, I like the Shoulder Tackle and Twin Snake changes.

Yeah, this is a big buff. Yoshi said we'd get a 10% increase in DPS, but this, on paper, looks bigger than that. I'll enjoy my IMMENSE POWAH! for now, but I'm certain that there is a nerf incoming.

Love the changes to bootshine, true strike and twin snakes to encourage more flank/rear dancing. Should put an end to lazy flank only rotations or at least reward hardworking MNKs more properly.

I feel the GL buffs are overkill though.

Since you used the original monks, did Fist of Fire/Wind/Earth support what the current tooltip says now? As far as MP consumed for faster attacks for Fist of Wind, or have these descriptions always been wrong?

@ChaozK The GL buffs would have been fine on their own. but with everything else thats coming out with it, id have to agree with the Overkill. so yeah, enjoy it while it lasts lol!

They have to boost rear side Dmg, otherwise put MNK no where to go in pvp.

I don't actually think they were over-buffed as some are saying. My initial reaction was that the Greased Lightning buff was a bit much. But then you have to compare it to DRG's buffs too. Both being melee DPS, it makes sense that they should have higher single-target damage than the ranged classes - who in 2.0 could pull off similar numbers from the general safety of not being close. None of the ranged DPS jobs really got any buffs this patch, so there is now at least some distinction there.

Both MNK and DRG got potency increases. MNK got 3 straight up increases, DRG got 2 (iirc, not looking at notes right now), plus 30 seconds lower CD on Power Surge - which means more frequent higher-potency jumps.
MNK got +6% damage buff from 2.0 (21% on GL3 up to 27%), DRG got +5% damage buff (15% on Heavy Thrust up from 10%).
Also add to this that BfB and IR are significantly toned down as XClass. DRGs are more distinctly bursty with BfB.

It kind of balances out. Especially when you consider that if you mess up as a MNK and lose GL you lose a 27% damage buff with it. Monks are the kings of sustained single-target DPS for sure, but DRGs are more consistent and reliable in fights where a long disengage is unavoidable. Neither is OP.
