I don't know what's worse... The outrageous prices or the fact that only a select few people will even get to utilize the house functions such as placement, building, decorations, etc...
The entire housing currently is one big messy joke.

They should add shanty towns for the 99% that can't afford regular housing.

Wrong.
In FFXIV, the 1% live in shanty houses... everyone else is homeless.
LOL If you have to ask, you can't afford it.
If only real estate in digital worlds wasn't so severely limited...

Housing was one of the only reasons I was considering sticking around FFXIV. It gave something to look forward to and occupy my time between weekly 1-2hr Coil Runs. Crystal Palace.... no interest unless I am quite bored and want to "attempt" to gear up an alt very slowly, but I am at the point where if that was my true motivation (accompanied by the increased to myth cap) I would just use myth tomes to gear said alt. I also know that I am not the only person that is in this situation.
I can get over the fact that you have to level up your guild more to buy a house, even tho if you have all 50's.... time to create an alt to get that guild experience, but the outrageous price of houses paired with the fact that there is a "limited" market is absurd. With the current market.... of legitimately generated gil (not gil you earned from people who purchased it from RMT)... the price of houses is insane. Also the price vs the quality of the house is not at all proportional. Like many posters above have mentioned... why pay 20mil gil or even 10mil gil for a shack. I could understand that being the option for small FCs but even they often do not have the gil saved up to afford the current price. It all is just a very disheartening state of affairs.
I am sure they will figure out that this was a poor move a month or so from now and try to take steps to fix it, but how many people will be interested in coming back with new AAA games being released on the horizon.

I see a few posts pittying legacy servers, no need...

lots of people used this method to max out gil in 1.X

Lots? Maybe. I certainly wasn't one of them. Also keep in mind that whatever money people had left over from 1.0 was reduced by 90% before stepping foot in ARR, and that these prices exceed the MAX amount of gil anyone could have had in 1.0 before the reduction. Legacy servers are also home to quite a few new players who choose these servers to play with their friends. It is not fair by any stretch of the imagination to penalize all for the actions of a few.I see a few posts pittying legacy servers, no need...

The atmos gil method? I did it, spent the gil in 1.0 on materia and got Darklight in ARR for my efforts. That's a single set of Darklight. What's your point? Not everyone from 1.0 is rich.I see a few posts pittying legacy servers, no need...

Unfounded Speculation. Patch Notes disagree:
They can and will add more wards if people buy out all the houses in supply. Each residential district is divided into a number of identical wards. Even if the plot of land you desire has already been purchased in a certain ward, it may still be available in another.
Additional wards will be added as required based on fluctuations in the population and economy of each World.

Well maybe the small plots are made for Lalafel Free Companies.
