From my understanding, most of the time attributed is really more for data center expansion, than actually applying the patch.

They had to assign more server groups for the Duty finder and split up the lobby server.
I'm guessing the Japanese team were assigned the first 12 hrs and the American team the later 12.

3 GB? What else is in this patch? XD Wasn't FFXIV ARR 2.0 8GB? It's nearly half a game! XD

They're not just adding data, but replacing existing elements as well. All the data for Revenant's Toll for example will replaced with the models for the expanded zone.

PC updated, took about 15 minutes at a steady 5-7.5 MB. Doing PS3 now, surprisingly staying near 2.0 MB and saying 35 mins to go.

Off to do some housecleaning and get that Xmas Tree up!
