    Main story questions

Okay, I've just reached the part in the story where I have to queue for my first dungeon in order to advance the main story. My questions are:

    1. Do you really have to do the dungeons in order to advance the main story? Is there any way around it? I've never done a dungeon (new to the whole grouping thing).

    2. Are there any benefits to doing the main story?

    3. Can you level without doing it?

Yu can level to 50 without doing Dungeons.. But you still have to group.. It is called FATE parties or FATE grinding.. The problem is if you do not do the story quest and the story dungeons you will not be able to experience or enjoy the end game content. Cause you must complete all the storyline quest and dungeons to unlock the hard mode primals and the Binding Coil of Bahamut. So it is your choice of course if you wish to just hit 50 and then do a bunch of low level stuff to be able to play the whole game.. Have and enjoy your time

    1. Yes. No. That's partially the point of forcing you into the dungeons. You can get used to them during the easy content, because dungeons are where endgame is. And do your guildhests, they are basically dungeon tutorials.

    2. You unlock a lot of stuff by following the main story, among them is the ability to travel by airship, using a chocobo or joining a grand company. They also unlock a lot of quests. And since the main story are quests as well, they also give a lot of XP, items and gil. And then there is also the fun of experiencing the story, which is all a lot of people need to have an incentive to do them.

    3. Yes, but to most doing the story is the most fun way to level. In fact, as soon as you level a second class, you will have to do so without the story, since you already did it.

    1. Yup. Nope. Don't worry, everyone else was new once too.
    2. Yup, you unlock certain rewards and systems, like the ability to have a chocobo, and other advantages. You need to finish your personal story to be able to obtain your relic weapon, and to do Coil too (the hardest content in the game), among other things.
3: Yes. But there's no need for that, don't be afraid of dungeons and level normally

Also, if you're new to grouping and dungeons you should try them first. You might have fun. I also recommend you to find a nice free company or linkshell, there's a huge difference between playing alone and doing it with others.

The main story is crucial for being able to use airships between cities (cheap travel), getting chocobo mount and chocobo battle companion, getting extra storage space with retainers, joining a Grand Company for gear and quests, and of course multiple dungeons.

If you feel you haven't progressed far enough to be committed to Goblin server, you can always make a new character on Siren. The Free Company I'm in is small, but everyone is active and friendly and always helping each other through dungeons of every level.

    HI. welcome to awesomeness.

Sadly there is no way to lvl past that first story part without pulling up Duty Finder and going in with a group. If you dps you will have to usualy wait a while to get in. but with the new patch tomorrow there is incentive for others to go back and do older dungeons. So fingers crossed) after tomorrow it will not be so much as a pain as it usually is.

    2. Main story has MANY benefits. It unlocks what is pretty much all the main mechanics in the game. A lot of the game is unlocked at certain levels. So you are most def. missign out if you delay the main missions. (ex. chocobo mounts. Retainers.. merketplace.. materia. among others. ) is def. in your best interest to run the main story and then youll have the game unlocked to go nuts with all your other classes

You can level all you want without the main story. but you will be hindered as a lot of the game is blocked behind hitting certain milestones.

The main story is very fun and interesting. Its boring until about lvl 15 though and then never looks back.

    Have fun

It's possibly to level without doing the story or grouping, but it would unecessarily take a large amount of time.

Avoiding the story and just levelling would be alienating the experience for a first-time player.
