sadly I'm on a Japanese server and I only speak english so not many people talk to me, however I have taken to doing 8 man dungeons and stating that my commendation will go to the best DPS in the party (gives them some drive) in the hopes that they will feel inspired to do the same, sadly they just wait for me to give mine out and then leave without so much as a thank you or goodbye.
I think they should maybe display post dungeon statistics (damage dealt, damage healed, agro %...) so that people can see just how useful everyone really was and then give out their commendation.
the point of the vote ISN'T to award the best at their role.sadly I'm on a Japanese server and I only speak english so not many people talk to me, however I have taken to doing 8 man dungeons and stating that my commendation will go to the best DPS in the party (gives them some drive) in the hopes that they will feel inspired to do the same, sadly they just wait for me to give mine out and then leave without so much as a thank you or goodbye.

(statistics don't even account specifics. what does it help me that the dps who had to stand in aoe had highest dmg? was that the same dps who should have been stunning an enemy but failed at it? did he attack the right target or is his dmg number only high because he attacked a mob healing itself?... )

a fair argument, but I've seen healers who try to tank get commendations where both DPS haven't, so knowing that the healer took a shit load of damage and 1 DPS did next to nothing cus they were to busy healing or that a DPS spent more time agro'd due to a bad tank not doing his job, knowing these things would definitely help you make a better decision as to who gets your commendation.the point of the vote ISN'T to award the best at their role.

well yes. players are idiots. it happens. doesn't mean I'm doing it or running healer or tank just to get commendations. I'm definitely not blindly voting for whoever is healing/tanking. if they are really good at their job and a nice person, then maybe.
I didn't say I .wouldn't. 'award' someone for doing their job correctly, especially if they react quickly when someone else fucks up, but just because someone does something wrong doesn't mean they don't deserve some 'niceness' either. if someone's new at tanking, but making me laugh and generally an enjoyable person... I may still vote for them.
I was playing CNJ last night and on several occasions I wouldn't get any, so I can say firsthand that it doesn't go to the healer by default.
I hadn't really played CNJ much until last night and I did notice that as adjusted my macros and ended up being able to do more that I was getting commendations a bit more regularly. It does seem a fair number of people are giving commendations based on how well they play.
In the few parties that were talkative, I tended to get at least one commendation. I'd guess being friendly in chat's an obvious way to get remembered for a commendation.
Who did I give commendations to? About half the time the tank, if they were decent or friendly in chat (so many silent DPS out there). Other times if the tank was acting like a DPS or was always rushing ahead of the team too much I'd give it to the DPS that kept it together more than anyone.
Granted, I was working on leveling CNJ (now 20), so this is purely my observations from very low level stuff. Take from it what you will.
