Patch Notes: Player Commendation Rewards

I've already had someone demanding they give them commendations but that's the first way you're not getting any from me even if you were a decent player. I've already got a few just from talking and explaining stuff to new people. This really shouldn't be something to aim for rather than something you get just for being friendly and helpful.

The concept behind the system is solid and the implementation was fine. The problem right now lies with how it's being handled by players. The main issues/exploits I've observed so far:

1. People making fake attempts at being helpful or sociable. Example: I was just in a wp run where a tank who is clearly trying to speed-run told a first-timer blm to "feel free ask if you have any questions", then proceeding to mass pull to the first boss and locking out the blm, who got lost and died a horrible death to beetles and stalker. The poor guy thought that's how the run is normally done while the tank continued to spew out things like "don't worry i'll try to make it easy for you" while doing the complete opposite in practice.

2. Regardless of your contribution or impression on others, tanks and healers still tend to get commendations by default. This is to be expected somewhat, all things being equal. But many times a DPS can do everything just right, be sociable and helpful and everything, and still get nothing. I ran a low-lvl dungeon as a silent tank, while a roulette-matched DRG actively called out mechanics to a first-timer, and I still got 3 commendations in the end.

3. People running off at the end without voting. This prevents them from receiving votes as well. Conversely, you also get situations where people just stand around in awkward silence after clear, running off as soon as they receive (or don't) their votes.

4. People making deals, "vote for me and I'll vote for you". Only slightly worse are those who make deals and then screw the other person over by running off without voting as soon as they receive their vote from that person. Most impressive player indeed.

I haven't seen anything like that using low level DR. I've run 6-7 times since the patch and have 4 commendations as a Dragoon, so there are people out there who vote for DPS.

If I have an outstanding tank (one that doesn't lose aggro to dps or let things pummel the healer) generally I'll give him my vote, sometimes I get a crappy tank and a really good healer, so the healer would normally get my vote there. Other times the other DPS does their job good so I give em my vote. Sometimes 2 people run out immediately and leave me and the other person no option.

As far as rewards, meh, I'll get em whenever I get em.

The only commendations i've given out were all to DPS, I don't go by who's the best, I go by who's chatty and friendly.

sadly I'm on a Japanese server and I only speak english so not many people talk to me, however I have taken to doing 8 man dungeons and stating that my commendation will go to the best DPS in the party (gives them some drive) in the hopes that they will feel inspired to do the same, sadly they just wait for me to give mine out and then leave without so much as a thank you or goodbye.

I think they should maybe display post dungeon statistics (damage dealt, damage healed, agro %...) so that people can see just how useful everyone really was and then give out their commendation.

Tank does tend to get them most often by default as long as they hold aggro, followed by the healer (since when playing Tank I do often have a bias toward the healer).

Then again, I just did a WP run where I got 2 as MNK and know I gave mine to the other MNK (2 monk WP. Bosses were so fast). 3/4 to DPS is not bad at all. I also gave mine to a summoner once who was synced down in Tam-tara because the healer just stopped healing me, I died, and the summoner used physic/topaz to keep the other DPS alive and finish off the boss. Impressive stuff.

after all its a team effort and everyone deserves one vote

I hate the fact that premades can't give commendations to ppl outside the premade members. I see the abuse on the premade side, but locking them from giving DF filled slots commendations is stupid.

People will just game the system by doing syncronized queues of the first or second guildhest and vote boosting one member for 3 votes per run per 3~5 minutes. Doing that would take a few hours, per person to max out on 500 commendations. Just have to figure out which one is the fastest, and get in on it durring off peak hours, before it's patched out.

the point of the vote ISN'T to award the best at their role.
(statistics don't even account specifics. what does it help me that the dps who had to stand in aoe had highest dmg? was that the same dps who should have been stunning an enemy but failed at it? did he attack the right target or is his dmg number only high because he attacked a mob healing itself?... )

a fair argument, but I've seen healers who try to tank get commendations where both DPS haven't, so knowing that the healer took a shit load of damage and 1 DPS did next to nothing cus they were to busy healing or that a DPS spent more time agro'd due to a bad tank not doing his job, knowing these things would definitely help you make a better decision as to who gets your commendation.
