    Tanking skills

Ok so, i used to tank in xi, but this is not xi. I seem to be having issues with keeping hate in even the most basic of fights so i was wondering if i am missing something here.

I use provoke, shield bash, war drum, and sentinel. I was going to go out of my way to get the marauder enmity ability, and taunt from pug. However are there any other skills i should get? Oh, shield level is 50, and glad is 45.

if you're pulling with provoke then that's mainly your problem, the mob needs to recognize people on its hate table to properly distribute hate. The first action basically gets completely nullified in terms of hate. Just melee > voke/wardrum(if multi-mobs)

Yes get taunt from pug, its only lvl 10 and takes about 30 mins to get to, lol just 5 star the lvl 1 leves and you'll be getting 1k+ sp.

Intimidation trait is your best friend. Also I'm sure that adding Taunt and Warmonger to your arsenal will help a great deal. If you still have trouble, I've heard that Phalanx helps hold hate, though I don't use it myself.

i agree with all above, you need to get enmitty+10 trait and the other abbilities they said, use phalanx a lot since you have always have a chance to use it when you have your shield up, i use feather foot with counter skills like jarring strike from pug its pretty good for holding hate too, war drum is a last resort abbility because most of the times can help you to claim all the hate when the mob is moving toward another ppl, so try using provoke and taunt a lot, warmonger is great but has a crappy recast in my op.

BTW i use raging strike from archer too, it has a lot of hate build that skill.

Get taunt, u can use skills like ferocity and raging strike which don’t use any stamina and gives u enmity spike. Get also Warmonger and disorient from mrd. Pretty much get cross class abilities that will raise ur enmity. Go to YG and search ea class and read all abilities. It will help u out ^^

I wouldn't worry too much, whatever people may say the enmity system in FFXIV can be random and sometimes, no matter what you do, you won't hold hate. They said they'll change that with the battle overhaul.

Well in my opinion the hate is NOT random. It is actually fairly accurate. You just need to engage the mob before you voke and then just use guard and phalanx...it will be very difficult for you to lose hate if you do that. All the better with multiple mobs when you get them with war drum, the phalanxs come like rain and you switch between the two mobs.

Dunes run for example, on the two mongrels, i'll hit one to engage, provoke, war drum, guard, then phalanx the 2nd one and keep switching between the two with phalanx. That is all you need to keep hate. Intimidation isn't necessary but of course it helps so get it. It is very easy to obtain.

Those of you who think hate is random are simply just not making enough use of guard and phalanx. Now you can complain if its multiple mobs but then that also means you just aren't very efficient with targeting. And that too is fine because the targeting system does sorta still suck.

The short version: PHALANX IS YOUR BEST FRIEND. Nothing else.
