Actually its more than that - how many posts you're allowed to make and how many threads you can create per day is based on your in-game level - level 50 naturally has the highest post and thread creation allowance. If you have a level 50 class/Job but are still experiencing restrictions after only a couple of posts, you might need to switch what class is being shown under your avatar to your level 50 one.
This post by Gildrein at the start of operation of the forum explains it in detail: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...17#post1015217
So why did SE put such restrictions on the forum, given the fact the original FFXIV forum was not restricted in this way? Probably because during the ARR Beta test, the Beta forum degenerated into a wretched hive of constant flame wars and trolling, and SE had to take the extreme steps of implementing posting restrictions accordingly to bring some kind of order to the site. And it seems they decided to head off any chance of that happening on the Lodestone as well, by retaining similar restrictions on the main FFXIV forum.
It's unfortunate, but blame the trolls - 'this is why we can't have nice things' definitely rings true here.

The true problem is capping replies and topics to something like 1000 characters, was it?
People need to post two-three times just to get a lengthy topic started with all the information they were trying to convey. Ofcourse following that, people do have to be picky and decide which they want to respond (read: troll) to or which to ignore due to the current mechanics.
It's not stopping anything. I've not gotten one serious reply that wasnt sarcastic or trolling on these boards in, ever. And that's with the current restrictions in play. They should just hire someone to keep an eye on the boards and actually moderate it, removing bad posts or even bad people. Their current idea for forum moderation only seems to encourage blatant trolling and hate-responses :/
While tedious, you can just edit your original post and suddenly the 1,000 character restriction is lifted. I usually write my whole post, then copy about 90% of it, then delete that 90%. Post it. Edit it. Replace the 90% then re-post. Sucks, but probably better than creating multiple posts. The true problem is capping replies and topics to something like 1000 characters, was it?

The character I chose (choose? past tense?) as my main on the forum is lvl 38 (almost 39) and are only allowed one post per day.. it's a joke.. You can't communicate with other people when you're so restricted.
edit: or maybe I'm only allowed to start one thread per day, it seems that's the case as this is my second post today! And I can see the point in them not wanting people to spam the forum with new threads every 5 minutes or so, but if theres a point in someone starting 2 threads in the time span of 10 minutes, they/we should be allowed to do so!![]()

Hi, I'm kind of new on these forums and would like to ask if anyone would be willing to inform me on how to create a new thread. Also how to edit a reply continues to elude me as well.
Welcome! To create a new thread, as long as your character level and the forum you want to create the thread in allows it (some are locked), on the thread list for that section simply click on the orange 'Post New Thread' button at the top left corner of the page. Then enter a title for the thread and the actual information you want to post (posts have a max of 1000 characters as you're probably aware) in the boxes provided. Then click 'Submit' at the bottom right of the screen. According to your character info next to your post your current highest class is LNC lvl 36, which reading SE's info about posting restrictions you're allowed to make a single new thread a day as a result so you should have problems there.
To edit a post you've made, simply click on the 'Edit Post' link on the bottom right corner of the post you want to enter, change or add the text in the field that appears on the post, and when you've finished, click 'Save' at the bottom right of the screen. If you want to delete the post though for any reason, you can also delete it here by clicking the 'Delete' button (you'll be asked to confirm if you want to delete it or not as a fail safe to stop threads and posts being accidentally deleted). Editing posts is useful to get around the 1000 character limit on new posts/threads incidentally.
Anyway, I hope this has helped!![]()
@Enkidoh, thanks for taking the time to answer. I found that the buttons aren't present while viewing on a tablet, but I see them now on my PC. Thanks again for answering and hope everyone on this post has a Happy Holiday
