Gill seller exchange for my server:

$210 for 10 mil. A ~cottage~ would run for close to 200-400 USD at that exchange rate. The most expensive house is 3,000-6,000 USD.

That ranks among the most expensive content in MMO history, rivalling, if not exceeding, EVE Online's Titans.

Does Yoshi-P think the legit community can out-gil-farm the gil-farmers? It's a pity the only way to fix problems in SE is to fire upper management. Time for Yoshi to go, i'm tired of apologies. The entire game has been nothing but a string of apologies since 1.0.

apparently they thought players were all gilsellers, before they reduced gil... 625m may have been more reasonable.

Their response is probably going to be something along the lines of "We're looking into it. Please look forward to 2.1". Prices aren't changing or being declared set in stone until 2.1 hits, has had some time to sink in, and the devs have some actual numbers on housing purchases.

The amount of responses is great because that it makes sure that this will be looked into, but I think something that we tend to forget is that they made these prices from some data that we don't have access. Now, the data seems skewed, especially the data on legacy servers, but they had some reasons that they thought these prices were valid and viable. They're not going to change that overnight. They've always been slow and cautious when it comes to changes that affect the economy. There are countless suggestions (drop a 0, reduce the prices by half) floating around, but they are going to have to gather data and crunch numbers, before they settle on keeping the prices as is or reducing them.

A price change may come (hopefully), but I wouldn't expect it anytime before the first month or so. My guess is that some type of price alleviation will come in 2.15 or we will get a long dev post explaining their methodology behind the prices.

Gil prices on Balmung are dirt cheap. We keep trying to get attention to this and hopefully they will listen. The last /tell that I got was offering 1 BILLION gil for $120 + a 15% buying bonus 'to be ready 2.1!' They are marketing to people to buy gil in order to get housing!

Hell yeah. 'Back then' expect a year's (or two) grind without cash shop item trading to roll around in a million of in-game currency.
But realize that in auction houses all the good stuff cost in the tens and hundreds(!) of millions.
So the poor stay poor & the rich get richer.

But that was 'back then'... =x

For stuff to cost so much this soon after a few months of release is just ridiculous.
If it were player set pricess, then inflation to millions makes sense but... set by game itself by default?

Well, that's one thing to ignore until a much later future.

Starlord we normally have different views but this is 1 time I agree with you. Yoshi can be as stubborn as he wants my FC WILL not throw away our gil like this. Yes we are from 1.0 the majority chips in to the FC land fund but we are only at 7.9 mil, but you know what we can be just as stubborn as Yoshi in this matter and I hope other players do the same. Dont spend your gill on the FC land till he reduces the prices so that everyone can afford 1. I am not saying make it easy definitly not but on excalibur 362 mil for the best if the best is way too high. My FC wants the best of the best but at that price it is highway robbery.

I'm over the initial shock of housing prices now. Once the gil sellers, titan mercs, and crafting/materia extortionists get rewarded with their giant mansion (a HUGE gil sink, and sorry if any of those terms seem insensitive to you, in all honesty), prices are almost guaranteed to come down. If you look at the patch notes from a broad perspective, you'll notice that they ARE informed of what is on topic in the forums and have listened to much of the feedback provided by us as players. The notes reflect many changes we've been asking for (as well as some to try and balance others).

My outlook for the future is that housing prices will take a drop about the time of the next patch. This is approximately the time the PS4 hits in Japan along with the beta for FFXIV. Forgive me for pulling out the "PS3 limitations" card, but I really believe that if even HALF the FCs on any given server were able to purchase a plot of land, it would create a lot of strain on the servers, and 10 year old console hardware. With everyone buying and customizing all this casual content at the same time, it may turn laggier than a HM Titan run.

I think this is a necessary evil to tease us with new, casual-type content, but it's also the most efficient at removing "dirty money" from the servers as well. It needs to be hyped for the server firsts to spend their gil in high amounts, but it also leaves a bad taste in the majority of players' mouths. But don't think that the prices won't come down soon, or that they don't listen to forum feedback; don't think that for a second. There are amends that must be made as being built on top of an existing game (1.0), but be assured that in a few months - perhaps after the next patch - this whole scandal will have blown over, and we'll all be much happier in the long run.

I'm not a "white knight" for the company. I just stopped and thought about the situation logically for a minute instead of letting my emotional response get the best of me. You're right that SE has data on each FC, as well as how much gil is in circulation across the server as a whole. These prices may seem outrageous to people like you and me, but just have a little faith that this is for the players benefit in the long term of things. It's a calculated move by Yoshi-P, but whether players decide to abandon the game like the first wipe of a dungeon run, or hang in until the end .......... Just try and play it out.
