Not sure I agree this was worded clearly.
But you can actually force Ifrit to "jump" early if your DPS is high enough and thus allowing your stun DR table to reset in time for a 4th stun. (My small group used to do this a lot; I'd stun for them).
In PUG you normally will have 1 erruption go off because of low DPS.

I've never had a fourth eruption and I've been in some pretty terrible pug groups.

It's similar to Garuda with "skipping" a phase. Sort of.
My PUG's must have been worse than yours, because 9/10, I am usually ready to warn the group about it, unless I can get a pacify to trigger via shield block.

It's a PLD skill, shield swipe. can only be used within a short time after blocking though.

Paladin has it in the form of Shield Swipe.
It requires that the Paladin "blocks", though. That can make it tricky and the time you have to use the skill, is limited, too.
