Nope. The pet also. Obey now will work as steady. I'm not sure why there's a steady anymore anyways.
I don't understand why people are upset with the changes to Obey and Steady.
Under normal circumstances (at least for summoner), pets should be set to Obey and Guard. This means the Egi will use its standard attack unless commanded to do something else. The changes to Obey and Steady just make it easier for scholar to control the various utility skills of the faeries.

Well, you can assume people posting in a summoner-focused thread know how to play their class already without spelling that out for them. The problem is the implication of the patch notes, as presented, is that pets WON'T do their basic attack anymore while set to Obey. If this is just a mistranslation (as it might be) then no big, but if you have to constantly nag garuda-egi to keep doing damage then that's a gigantic pain in the neck...!I don't understand why people are upset with the changes to Obey and Steady.

Or let me rephrase, why would a Summoner want to use Obey + Steady?

A summoner use steady to stop the pet from attacking all together. Obey would be used so that the pet would auto attack and, in the case of garuda-egi, use contagion when needed. Now it could mean that what they are trying to say is that you can now select steady and obey at the same time. Instead of going guard and obey at the same time, which was the defacto. If I can still guard and obey then there is no problem. Yes, losing thunder sucks but losing 80dps because Garuda would not attack in obey would be atrocious.
I can tell you right now, with absolute certainty, that we will be able to use Guard and Obey at the same time.A summoner use steady to stop the pet from attacking all together. As things are now, for example, if you set your pet (Egi or Fairy) to Obey and Steady, any order will switch the pet to Obey and Guard, which is annoying especially for Scholar.
The patch notes simply state they will remain in Steady if you give them an order, which is what should have happened in the first place.

After reading it over on the page, I realized that is what they probably meant. I admit that I was quick to judge based on my feelings and I did not fully comprehend what they meant.

Because the egi will attack any enemy that attacks the summoner or egi while under Obey. The old way is that Steady would go away the moment the Summoner told the Egi to go attack something, which caused some serious problems in places like AK. In order to stop the egi from pulling a bunch of enemies, I would have to manually set it to Steady mode, and then back to attack mode (if I wasn't attacking anything at the moment).
The Thunder being a class specific ability is definitely a nerf to the SMN's single target ability. Using Thunder, along with Bio, Bio II, and Miasma was the SMN's DPS Bread and Butter, and then using Garuda's Contagion to tap out the timer is definitely going to be missed.
What's being traded is a boost to SMN's AoE abilities with Blizzard II. It requires the SMN to be in close range (like WHM's Holy), but much more powerful than the LOL-worthy Tri-Disaster. It seems that they're trying to make SMN (and ARC) be AoE kings, while BLMs are more Single Target DPSers.
I just wished they boosted Ruin/II up a bit to compensate for the loss of Thunder.

AoE Kings? Summoners? Are we looking at the same game? Black Mages are the residential AoE kings, where as summoners are single target DPS focused. They were trying to give all casters an AoE move, but they nerfed it down and it's expensive as hell to cast as it currently stands. Now, outside limited (debatable) usage in t4 and fate parties, there's no other point to using this ability. Unnecessary nerf was unnecessary.
