We are the Filthy Casuals, a rank five company.
Are we open to members who are only interested in socializing? Definitely! We do more than that, but we never turn anybody away. We're a very accepting group!
Are we willing to help those less progressed than ourselves? Of course! We have a wide range of members already. All you need to do is ask for help, and we will see your struggles put to rest. (Unless we already know what you're working on, in which case we're probably offering to help before you can ask!)
What about end-game? We have no static yet, but don't be mislead by our name. I've tanked my way up to Turn Five, and I would love to form a company static. If we can recruit some more people who are interested in making this happen, then you can be certain that I will be forming a static.
What is your company's focus? We're a jack of all trades. At any given moment our members may be in the middle of tome grinding, FATE grinding, leveling their crafting and gathering classes, or simply socializing. We help each other with relic quests as more of our jobs hit 50, and we help our lower level members with their dungeon queues as they progress through their story quests. In preparation for housing, many of our company members have been making a push to get multiple crafting and gathering jobs maxed out, and our company chest has been gradually filling up with shards, gil, lumber, and other potentially helpful housing materials. To ease the tedium of gathering for those who are interested in working on it, we often host competitions with prizes. When none of this is happening, we tend to host company-wide games and events. Ideally a Coil static will soon be added to this list of activities, but until we have more members who are interested in that, I have been forming successful PUGs for the majority of Turns every week and our members are always welcome.
What about RP? While I recognize that Balmung is as close to an RP server as you can find in FFXIV, we actually have yet to host any RP events within our own FC. There simply hasn't been any interest expressed by our current members. We are not opposed to RP however, and we would never discourage RP in our free company. In fact, I would gladly start up an RP side of the company if some of our members expressed the desire for such a thing. Until somebody speaks up and gets that ball rolling though, any of our company members who are interested in RP will probably find their interest best served by grabbing a linkpearl to one of Balmung's many RP channels.
How big is the company? I won't lie. Currently we are a very small company. Our number of online members fluctuates at any given time. The company is known to experience some very slow periods depending on the time of day, but we have never had any complaints about that. Our small size is due in large part to our recruitment strategy, which has been to accept anyone who comes to us, and that's about the extent of it. In other words we never felt the need to engage in any sweeping, active advertising methods for recruitment because frankly, we've never felt like anything is lacking in our group. This is not to say that we are opposed to growing though. After all, this post is being made today for a reason. The more the merrier does ring loud and true with us, and all who ask are immediately accepted into our group. We encourage anybody who is looking for a company to take a chance on us, and give us some time to grow. You'll find that we're a fun group, and we'll surely have more members soon!
So why wait until now to start actively recruiting? Our primary goal since first starting the company has been to save money for a house, but the recent release of housing prices has shown us that our carefree recruitment strategy isn't going to cut it. We need to begin a deliberate push to expand our numbers if we ever wish to enjoy this area of content. That is not to say that we are only recruiting members who are willing to throw gil at our company chest. As has been stated, all who ask are always welcome with us, and we are a friendly company that enjoys selflessly helping each other. Rather I bring up this point in order to notify players that if housing is your current goal, you will be hard pressed to find another company more interested in helping you accomplish that.
Got a website? Nope. I've tried the website thing as a guildmaster in other games. Nobody ever uses them. When I've seen other guilds try to force it, their members have only complained about it. Based on experience, I simply can't justify the expense. I did have a Facebook group out work before though. I would gladly start one of those if there is enough interest voiced for it.
What about voice chat? Not quite yet, but I definitely plan to get a TeamSpeak3 server soon. Without an end-game static, I struggle to justify the expense at the moment, although I do acknowledge that it would be fun to have for our other company events. That being the case, my plan is to spring for a voice server when we start a Coil static, or when we purchase a house and throw the initial decorating party, whichever comes first. The server would then remain open for use in any future company events or raids.
Are you LGBT friendly? Absolutely. As I've said, everybody is accepted here. This doesn't just refer to in-game characters; this refers to the people behind them, too. We have a history of welcoming LGBT members as we would any other, including into our company's leadership. To my knowledge though, LGBT members do not currently make up the majority of our ranks. So if your priority is to find a company in which LGBT players make up the majority of membership, then be aware that our company does not currently meet such expectations. I can, however, refer you to some of the primarily LGBT companies that I have had positive experiences with. We are lucky enough to have some great LGBT-focused companies on our server!
Are there any rules to your company? First let me proudly say that we've got an outstanding group of mature folks in our company, and our leadership has never been faced with a situation in which we've had to address our rules outside of this post. That said, our company does indeed have one simple rule: be respectful. This applies not only to how you would treat your fellow members within the company, but also to how you would treat those outside of our own ranks. Our company leaders have not defined any actions that qualify as disrespectful; we rather choose to leave it up to each individual to define what offends them, as this helps to ensure that every individual has the right to feel at home in our company. If a player were to ever inform our leadership about one of our members making them feel seriously uncomfortable, then the complaint would be looked into, no matter our leadership's own opinions about the severity of the alleged offense. Based on our leadership's findings and the accused player's cooperation, appropriate actions would be taken if any were deemed to be necessary. Put plainly, we simply expect our members to be considerate of others, because we take harassment seriously. As our complaint-free history goes to show, this expectation is far from a tall order. It's merely common courtesy, which I would assume comes naturally to most folks.
Who do I talk to about joining? For more information, please post your questions here and I will be sure to reply. If you would simply like to request an invite though, then you can log into the game and contact either Mico Adams, Thunder Biscuit, Kirito Kazutoll, or yours truly: Marledia Ralene. In the rare case that none of us are on, or if we are perpetually in Duty Finder instances when you see us, then you can also e-mail me at Marledia_XIV@outlook.com and we can easily arrange a meeting that way.
Hope to hear from you soon!
