I have a sneaking suspicion this whole thing with the exaggerated FC housing prices is in fact a deliberate sting operation by SE to catch both RMT and gilbuyers in one stroke. Or maybe my catnip-fuelled paranoia is kicking in again. :P

I don't condone RMT at all, but think about it: the smart game is to wait (that's lame BTW), which anyone sane that has game-centric reasons to value their gil will likely do, in theory.

But, again in theory, the waiting for the prices to go down only works if buying is happening.

So who's buying, then? People with no game-centric reason to value their gil. People that whip out their credit card. Impatience powers the entire RMT stratosphere in timesink games like MMORPGs.

EXACTLY! This is a very telling, very disturbing statement so early in the game as to create "should I invest or not" impressions. I immediately downgraded to entry subscription upon reading the housing prices, because of this exact logic! I want a world to live in, not compete in.

I'm part of a 40 man FC half are active and not alts and housing isn't in the cards. It's non content for us. You guys really need to take a step back and ask if this is about fun anymore.

I feel it is only fair that I address your OP directly, seeing as I contributed to somewhat of a derailment.

I agree with your sentiment on the grounds that the housing prices are a direct reflection from the devs as to how much gil we "should" have, and thus how much our time, purchased with a subscription, is worth. Telling your FC, for example, that you don't spend enough time in game to have the money to access this feature at its inception is just unacceptable, as you've presented it. The most generous donations being put forward in my much smaller, very friendly FC were upwards of 125k. Our server's housing starts at 8mil. That's telling our FC that we're just not enough of an FC to even think of a house. That's ridiculous, and disrespectful.
