If you really think the housing system is so fragile, perhaps SE should have spent a bit more attention on developing it properly. Getting the house should not be the journey - customizing it and creating your own (or your FC's) space should be. Rift got that right. The time and gold sink is in creating, obtaining, and putting together hundreds or thousands of materials to build a masterpiece together. That makes the long term goal actually interesting, as it's something that requires you do much more than just "farm gil". That housing is little more than "farm gil, buy house, decorate with a few items", with the vast majority of the effort going to the first step (which doesn't even involve participating in the housing content), is not a good thing.
