this is a classic design to not kill a game off. Housing prices is probably the second challenge ever brought into this game aside from fully completing coil. What people here are upset about is for pretty much the wrong reasons. The people in this thread want houses very easily obtainable for everyone. Now this sounds nice and all, but I've played enough games to know where this would head off to: everyone gets maxed out, then leave to find a new game to play. A game with no challenge and a game with everyone obtaining the same things even though some worked harder for it will kill off the hardcore population. Whether you love them or not, hardcore players is half of what keeps a game alive.
Theres a difference though between making something require hard work to obtain and being impossible to obtain. Maxing out your Gear for BiS. That takes some hard work (several months).
With this, people could spend years and never get that much gil.
Thing is housing shouldn't be a hardcore feature but something everybody should get access to. Like I said in another topic, in most modern MMO everybody can toy with housing but you have to grind and work hard for the rarest and finest housing furnitures (and/or the best houses if there are premade designs).Guess you haven't seen their forums LOL. If you're not in the top 1%, be prepared to be bashed to the ground.
Anywho @whisper: this is a classic design to not kill a game off. Housing prices is probably the second challenge ever brought into this game aside from fully completing coil.
[snip]
I see no reason to gate the housing such as it is done with the current system. Especially when you have to go through content unrelated to housing to actually unlock the feature through money (plus, you have then to craft all furnitures, which should be a FC effort).
The difference between housing cost and BCoil is that everybody can get a shot to coil.
^^^^And the worse part of it is that buying land is the very first step in order to start using the housing system. Without it you can't do anything, you can't see any kind of progress or say "Phew guys, after 3 months we finally got to finish decorating that room with what we wanted, it looks awesome with that EX Primals and Coil furniture. Now we can start with the rest". No, you can only see the gil on your bank slowly growing (super fun), without being able to play that content. Would you like that after you talk with J'brohka to enter Coil she tells you "Ok, and now I need you to bring me 100 millions of gil to... uhm... Oh, yeah, to buy explosives to open a new entrance for you *Smile*"? It wouldn't be fun, right? I know I would have wanted to kill her if she had told me that.

This is good drama from both sides. Keep it up guys. Worth every penny of my subscription fee.

Not worth it in the end, if some FC spends even 200+m on a something useless thats super cosmetic, i think its a waste. Content will be forgotten about in a week.
At the end of the day, we are paying for the content released. If players can't experience the content they are helping to fund, then that pretty much speaks for itself.

All i want for Christmas is a Gazebo/ tent. :3
~'\[[_LEGACY_]]/'~TENTs because solo-friendly content forces me to want one!

Dear Square Enix,
Please Strike Housing from the 2.1 Patch and re-instate it during 2.2.
Until then, we would like you to spend a couple months in the Time-Out corner thinking about what you did wrong.
Sincerely,
Players of Final Fantasy XIV : A Realm Reborn.

I have still have yet to hear a sound logical argument to defend something like this. I shall continue to wait it seems.
