Potential HoT Healer ideas

Mistweaver monk would be the perfect combo for me in 14; hots, dps > heal, channels, some shielding. I just never want to see Rift's -icar builds come into 14. DOL DOL DOL DOL DOL DOL DOL EVERYTHING. If you've played rift before SL, you know what I mean haha. Chloro was great and I still log into Rift from time to time just heal PvP with it. Warden was a lot of fun after SL... it was okay pre-SL.

There definitely needs to be a hot healer though. Being able to Hot up multiple targets and keep them running would be great. The problem is this game's stupid enmity system and overhealing aggro.

Also, WTB more spot heals that are instant cast. So tired of using lustrate as a spot heal on silly dps when that could've been used on a tank.

I'm not very familiar with multiple mmo's. Can you explain to me the play style of a channeled base?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91oMNZNuW2s This a chloro healer who uses damage to heal and their main tank heal was through a channel. When someone talks about a channel healer, they're talking about a healer who uses a consistent channeled(casted over a period time) heal as a primary heal.

To channel an ability.

Currently, as you know, if you have a spell interrupted mid cast, you don't get to heal at all.
Channel is basically the reverse. Your casting time is your actual heal, except the longer you're casting the more heal it does because it will tick small heals throughout the cast - so basically when you get to the end of the 'cast' bar, you've obtained a full heal potency; but if you only need a small heal, you can just interrupt your own cast to end the heal prematurely from its full potential.

It's basically a HoT that is only active when you're casting, in other words.

Considering it would be focused on "over time" effects, perhaps Time Mage?

Thank you Thriar and Calvate for the explanations. I understand way better now. I had been wondering how different style classes could be implemented in the future. This does seems quite interesting.

I was actually very impressed with how different Scholar and Whitemage turned out. I would enjoy trying a different style and to see the different kinds of abilities used for a final fantasy type game.

Time Mage would be so sick for HoTs (could even channel in some ways). They could give them HoT heals that would regen HP, but then speed up time to make it heal the full amount right away. That would be a weird mechanic but would have potential to be completely badass. Not to mention you could go in so many directions with it. I'd love to see the next healer be something along these lines of ideas you guys are coming up with >_>!
