I'm not supposed to have Aggro issues as a Summoner, am I?

ran my first dungeon as a Summoner last night, Haukke Manor.

was pulling aggro left and right, and I'm not quite sure what i was doing wrong.

I mean we got through the instance fine enough, but I've not ever really pulled aggro from a tank or anyone else before in previous dungeons, so it was a new "oh sh*t what is this?" kinda thing for me.

could using Bane be the main contributor to my aggro-taking?

any suggestions on how I should go about stacking my DoTs and using Bane in a manner that doesn't have things running to chop my head off?

Unless you were attacking the mobs out of turn or not allowing the tank to establish hate before you start attacking, it sounds like it was most likely the tanks fault.

Most likely the tank was not flashing enough or rotating his combo through targets

Bane. Till this point tanks have been able to mostly flash/op once or twice and then single target kill and be fine. When I was leveling I would test it on the first group if I pulled then I would save bane for when there were only 2 instead of 3/4 adds. Should I have to? No but I didn't want to deal with the issue so I adjusted to get through it. It gets better later when they start figuring out they need to pay more attention to the whole pack

The emerald carbuncle is the way to go...or your non tank pet if your above lvl 30. Your tank will draw aggro to you.

I don't ever use my tank pet in groups.

Tanks have to work harder with a Summoner in the lower levels. DoTs + Bane generates more threat than they can keep up with without using AoE threat abilities more frequently. WAR might have it a bit easier than PLD initially since they get Defiance at 30, vs Shield Oath at 40.

Going back to those places as a pld in roulette I've actually found that I occasionally lose hate on groups. This is in large part due to not having Shield Oath, even burning all my MP on flash can't always hold a group. Cycling targets w/o RoH to finish the hate combo also isn't super effective, bane a little later in the fight, or any other AoE, isn't as bad, but if your getting bane in the first 5 seconds then it's almost impossible if you get a string of crits on your DoTs. War for OP handles it alot better.

I tend to ask before using Bane or even doing an aoe with my BLM, just to make sure the tank and healer are fine with it otherwise I am just as happy to single dot/spells.

This. I started asking if the tank if they would mind if I Bane. Having to rotate through mobs to hold against aoe is new to many as they are still learning the basic mechanics in these lower levels. Often they don't have their job unlocked either in this dungeon which making it more difficult to hole aggro as well.
